Went to an auction today not planning to buy anything. Ended up running home to get a trailer. Found these 2 woodstoves and couldn't pass them up as the old suburban in the garage is pretty much whooped. The rusty one on the trailer says baker on both front doors and has an 8" flue. Paid $10 for it. Don't know anything else about it. Can anyone tell me about it? The taller one still on the cart is a Hitzer model 55. Everything is there for it including grate shaker handle and grates appear to be good. Planning on cleaning it up and putting it in garage. Paid $95 for it. I think I did ok. 20191005_185759.jpg20191005_184411.jpg 20191005_184339.jpg 20191005_184312.jpg

I've never been to an auction that had prices that low. Usually at least $500 at the very bottom and 300-400k on the higher end.

The Bakers were made about 3 miles from where i grew up. My mom dated the owner when they were in high school. They sell anywhere from $100-500 on C/L and facebook marketplace. I use one to heat my shop all winter. i have the single door Falcon model. Check for cracked welds on the air tubes where they come out the front. (use a flashlight and close the doors in the dark,) You can find a blower for it online. Never had good luck with hardware store gaskets. Went to Baker's shop and got the one for my stove and it has lasted 3 years. A good masonary suppy place should be able to get firebricks.

Here's a pic of one with the optional hood that was used to tie into existing ductwork. Asking price for this one is $275.

So I cleaned out the hitzer and it is like new on the inside. Tag on the back says model 55 wood and coal. I have a question about it though. There are no gaskets on the doors but both doors seem to shut good and tight. There is no channel for a gasket either. I am assuming it doesn't use door gaskets. Does anyone have one and can verify this.
