You don't need to fab anything up, if you want a throttle lock buy a tank/handle that has one.
Here's a link to one.

I sticking with what I posted first tho, tune your carb.
I have 2 of these now and had a different one before too, that's 3 total, none of them had a throttle lock and none of them started hard at all, they start super easy.

I agree too there actually quite reliable saws and start up easy as even after months n months. Mine in 5 years never even had a new plug and it cut most of my firewood a couple of bars were worn out on it

Ok I will definitely take a good look at the carb and tune it and the idle speed. Seeing the lock in the marketing materials and then the mold delete on the real saw get me thinking there was more to the story. Why do the pro saws all have a half throttle setting to start if it's seemingly doable at idle? Just for the added reliability? Thanks for all your tips guys!

Not all pro saws have a half throttle setting to start.
I have Husqvarna 372 carbs on my Chinese saws now, it has the exact same set up for bumping the throttle open when the choke is on as the stock Chinese carb and nothing for hot starts. The saws started a touch better with the smaller stock carbs but still start really easy with the big ol 372 carb.
