it showed up and it’s .404”semi chisel chain ( modern looking).

My bigger saws will be in .404” .063 chain. Not sure if I should stock up more on the $149/100’ reel. Maybe I’ll get skip tooth chisel chain next. I’m stocking up for the kids.

On occasion, it's fun to run a really big saw that can pull .404" chain. I loved doing this several years ago at a GTG with a stock Stihl 084 pulling a 36" bar:

Heck, guys, I was so excited I forgot my chaps and my steel-toe work shoes. Only one saw beat me that day -- a Husky 394 using skip tooth chain, muff modded, and running on airplane fuel. He nipped me by a hair.

Why not get more Bill if its good. Don't forget the usual problems of stretch that China chain has are probably minimised in the .404 chassis with components in .063. I have some China .404 that's a Carlton copy & its great. I'd buy a roll of that at that price for sure. But as you have one you can see if it was on close out for good reason or if the quality is good. I'd get some on a big saw & grinder to see what its really like. I'd stick to full comp. Are you stocking up for the kids so they can do work on your property...?

I got a roll last year. The vid below is running it. It hasn’t stretched much for me...on that particular log square or regular full chisel would be dull in a cut. The raisman made it 6 cuts. I have been happy with it for the price.

Raisman 404/063” is around $400 on eBay, the sale at HLS lists for $500 and the sale is $149 for 100’ rolls. One 404 chain loop is close to $50. I’m thinking a 100’ roll won’t last long with longer bars. They recommend 80cc saws and up to run 404 chain. I found out the longer tooth on the 404 chain last longer over 3/8” chain. If your not hitting the ground often.

I feel stocking up when it’s on sale is good, some semi chisel and chisel for shorter bars and skip semi chisel and skip chisel for longer bars. I’m thinking if one of my boys ever loses his job I can back them in the firewood business since I have the connections. Let’s hope they won’t need it but if they do I’m there for them.

It might just be a weird light effect in the photo however it looks like some of the cutters are chisel shaped and some are semi chisel, left versus right side cutters. Hopefully that is not the case and it just looks weird in the photos.

Not so sure about the Raisman brand you purchased, but I find 404 SC is the bee’s knees for true production work.

That’s what I use on anything that would pull it when I have to really get the job done.

Very difficult to dull. Generally run in on a ported 395 with an 8 pin, 36” bar.

Unless I hit a rock, there is no need to sharpen all day long.

Till we figure out what we’re going to cut (bunk truck load) I figure they’ll be setup with 404”.

Don’t forget to do the gullet, get that gullet.
