I saw that some folks sharpen 3/8s with a 7/32 and then put a small steep grind on the top of the tooth with a 1/4
file and that helps clear out the junk coming off the tooth. Sounds good. But is it worth it???
It seems that it might be easier to take a small high quality flat file and hit the top of the tooth with that at a near vertical
angle..whats your technique for this...?

Sounds like a waste of time to me. Making sure the gullet is clear is one thing, but taking the time to do that is another. My filing technique involves using the correct size file & getting up under the tooth, almost pulling up on the file as I go. Then I’ll knock down my rakers.

For a near vertical angle on the tooth run square ground chain and learn to square file. Then be ready to file a fair bit more if you’re in anything that’s not clean.
