My brother spends time at flee markets and swap meets. He's been on the hunt looking for saws for me to build.

He found this one last friday, a 1983 266se. Guy said it doesn't run, ended up scooping it for $45.

For that price I didn't look at it too hard. Saw was filthy but was more or less all there.

Under all the dirt and crap is what was a nice clean saw.

I've been kicking myself for 2 years cause I missed a nice 266 at a dealership and wanted the chance to get another.

I looked at a picture of the super clean 266 I looked at 2 years ago at a dealership to see what a mint one looks like.

Funny story, that 266 and this one are the same saw, the pictures confirmed!!

Its amazing to me the damage and "mods" the guy who had it did over just 2 years.

Oh and he said it doesn't run so thats why I could have it so cheap.

Took me 5 mins to get it running, the guy had both jets almost closed!

Piston is scored but she runs really really well.

Im going to rebuild this one, figure it was meant to be!

That muffler is hilarious...

That muffler isn't east coast or west coast, its downtown all the way.

Its crazy cause this exact saw was so minty 2 years ago. I'm sad I didnt pay asking price.

I'll beat those holes closed and weld em up good as new!!

My favorite saws i have 4
2 are ported and 1 more getting ported.
The oem outer falling spike is available
Duke sells them on eBay.
I run meteor windowed pistons in my 266 and 268s
Very good gains over the non windowed.
Somebody put a stihl fastener in that recoil.
That will be a nice saw.

Meteor are darn fine pistons in my experience.

And you're right, the more I look at this saw the more I think it will be a nice saw when done.

Its already got a spot on the "keepers shelf".

That saw should have the HS-163 and the early 50ZN11 cylinder with the smaller porting if it is still all correct for an 83.
I used to think that you could identify the change in porting with the change in number from ZN11 to ZN13, but I have a ZN13 sitting on my bench with ports that match the ZN11...

That muffler job is rediculous. I have a 910 Jonsered that looks similar... LOL I've probably got a decent stock one here if you want to just replace it.

When I pull this saw down, I guess I'll see what the porting looks like.

I may port this saw anyhow and maje it rip.

Still need to finish up getting the numbers, but I have 3 distinct 266 cylinders on my bench. The 50zn11 and 50zn13 with the matching small intake port share intake port dimensions and timing, both ZN13's share exhaust dimensions and timing.
Transfers appear to be the same on them all, but I need to verify.
Both ZN13'S, intake side:

86 50zn13 on the left, 83 ZN11 on the right:

And transfers:

The ZN11 has a significantly higher exhaust port than the other two.
