Hello All: My 040 needs some help. I need to replace the flywheel. Are the nylon and/or steel inserts interchangeable? Did the flywheel use a cover with holes that bolts to the flywheel like the later 041's? Best, Dan

It`s a little bit complicated. There are 2 Rings 0000 961 5115 and 0000 961 5116, these are also used on the 041 AV and 041 FB. Flywheels 1110 400 1200 and 1110 400 1201 were used. Also fan wheel 1110 080 0510 was replaced by 1110 080 0500 (also used on 041 G).

I know it`s not much help, but I`m not able to track it down better.

The 5115 metal starter ring and the 5116 nylon ring are not interchangable. As said above, the fanwheel for each is different. And the later 1110 086 0505 flywheel with cast-in 'teeth' doesn't work with the early a friction shoe rotor.

Thanks for the reply. My fan wheel is a 1110 080 0500. Looks like it takes a nylon ring?

Guess Stihl used many different options for the 040, like the metal starter ring vs the nylon ring on my saw. Decided to replace the fanwheel on my saw as it was damaged and found a 1110 086 0500 listed for the 040 so purchased it. Doesn't fit. There's a number preceding the part number that's important. My saw had a 9. The replacement had an 8. Apparently the 040's had two different flywheels. Mine has a Bosch and takes a 9 fanwheel. I'm going to shrink fit a bushing on the bosch flywheel so I will be able to use the 8 fanwheel.
