SOLD!!!! Parts saw or project. 162se, 66, 268, ???? Husqvarna anyway

If the new owner takes a good look at the "lobes" of the crank, there may be some numbers on one of them, that may give a more accurate estimate of when this saw was made.

SOLD!!!! Parts saw or project. 162se, 66, 268, ???? Husqvarna anyway

By studying some IPLs, it became clear that the Nordfeller parts and some extra recoil cover decal options (assumed to say FE and FG on them, for lack of other possibilities) first were listed in the 1979-06 IPL: http://www.barrettsmallengine.com/partslist/husqvarna162-1979-06.PDF. To me...

Air bag = Nordfeller device (an inflatable felling wedge, inflated by exhaust gas from the saw). You may be right, and I have been considering that possibility, without reaching at a conclusion yet. Normally the saws with that device simply said FE or FG on them instead of SE or SG though - but...

SOLD!!!! Parts saw or project. 162se, 66, 268, ???? Husqvarna anyway

The first two digits of the model number appears to be 16, meaning that all but the cylinder bore points at a 162SE as it looks to me. However, there is a very slim chance that the cylinder is the original, and the saw actually left the factory as one of the elusive 166 saws. Some of those...

    Husqvarna 266 carburetor

Thanks my friend! Btw, as far as I have been able to find out, there was a .1 kW/.1 hp increase (in specs) between an early and a late 266SE. Of course, the different numbers I have seen isn't necessarily connected to the larger carb of the late ones - but it is a plausible theory.

    Husqvarna 266 carburetor

My (surely somewhat uneducated/simplified) view is that a larger carb venturi only helps if the air intake, cylinder intake, cylinder porting and exhaust also are up to the task of creating a larger flow trough the system (with the correct air to fuel mix). On some (stock) saws the carb venturi...

    Husqvarna 266 carburetor

As far as I know there is zero difference between a late production 266SE and an early 266XP, except the decals. None of the many known technical updates (service bulletins) to the model corresponded with the designation change in time. The XP designation just replaced the SE and CD...

A comment to the links; As far as I know, the HS 224 was the common carb on late production 266SE and on at least Swedish made 266XP saws. There was a Walbro substitute on some saws though. The HS 163 that was used on most 266SE saws (up to some time in 1985) has a smaller venturi.
