I'm pretty confident it's a variety of elm. Elms bark looks very much like some oaks to me.
I'm not familiar with different varieties of ash but I've never seen the color go that far towards the sap wood. I've seen the dark heart wood but...
[ATTACH] [ATTACH] A friend of mine is a foreman for a large tree outfit and came across a beautiful boxelder that came down in some storms.
Looks like elm to me. Did it smell bad? I've never personally milled elm but heard it smells terrible.
