    I felt bad about this

That's a LOT of heat going to waste there. I guess it's too late to tell anyone about it, they probably dumped it already? I guess Mother Earth has it now...

When to change single wall stove pipe?

The local stove shop told me about a guy who does chimney work so I called him and he came out this evening and looked at it. He said he believes it is stainless steel even though it is black painted, he said it still looks "great" and said he wouldn't do anything to it. He said he could tell by...

When to change single wall stove pipe?

This is along the lines of what I was thinking too, but I wanted to see what others opinions on it were, if there was a reason I should replace it. Do you see any rust inside of the pipe when you clean it? I do, but just wire brush it off, then it gets coated with soot as I burn, but I never get...

When to change single wall stove pipe?

Let me explain this a little better, this is the pipe that goes from the back of the stove up to the ceiling of the room, it is only 7' not 10' like I mistakenly said earlier. It joins an insulated box at the ceiling, then the rest of the pipe outside is insulated steel double wall pipe, same...

When to change single wall stove pipe?

It fits into an insulated box at the ceiling that has double wall pipe running up from there outside.

When to change single wall stove pipe?

We have the same black single wall stove pipe inside the house since 1990, about 7' of it. When I clean it I see surface rust on the inside of it but just use the wire brush on it, it gets some surface rust on the elbow and the small piece right above it, but I steel wool it off and apply paste...

Anyone ever burn Chinese Red Birch?

Got a load of this a bit ago, looked it up and it is Chinese Red Birch. Anyone have any experience burning it? It looks pretty good, almost like an ornamental tree. Thanks

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

Trimmed a big shrub on Saturday that I got poison from before, didn't wear a long sleeve shirt, got it on my left elbow this morning. Maybe next time my empty head will remember to wear a long shirt. If I'd had cut that tree at my neighbors I'd be in bad shape if I got it from this shrub. I...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

Came home from work and saw that the landlord must've came by today and cut it up and hauled it away, so it is just a memory now. I just hope he or whoever cut it doesn't get it, I still see the vines with the shiny "leaves of 3" climbing all around the base of the tree and upwards! Thanks for...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

Thanks for the replies. I saw that tree again today from a different angle then yesterday plus the sun was out today and I can see that the poison vine goes up the tree at least 16 feet not 6 like I had said yesterday, goes way up the other side of the tree. No thank you...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

Thanks for the replies. I was cuting the grass today and looked across at the tree about 50 feet away or so and could easily see the poison vine goes up from the base of the tree about 6 feet, and is a few feet on the section that cracked and is sitting there still attached like a hinge, no...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

It was very soon after I carried a few pieces that were cut close to 18", I'm really anal about it being cut to that size or very close, and the landlord had cut pieces up to all different lengths, otherwise I probably would've carried more home, but it was only 3 pieces and soon after that I...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

I just called the landlord that owns the rental property next door and left him a voicemail and apologized and told him I am not going to deal with it, if I had seen it beforehand I probably would not have asked, I'm sure he'll understand and if it doesn't well that's too bad. Last night I did...

Cutting wood with poison vine on it

Neighbor had a section of Norway Maple crack off a big branch and of course I asked if I could cut it up for wood, the answer was yes but on closer inspection there is a poison vine attached to the section closest to the trunk where it cracked at but is still attached to the tree, the rest of...

    Is sycamore firewood any good?

I like Sycamore, I know I'm in the minority but I like it. Heavy as heck when fresh, lots of water, but dry as a feather when dry, dries pretty fast. I take it if I see it, but to each his own I guess.

Last fire of the year? Bittersweet

Not that bad here. 53 or so they say! But they also said today's outdoor activity level was "very good" as I sit here and watch it raining lol! Glad I cut the grass last night after work when it was in the upper 70's!
