    Milling long dead logs

Thanks for that Bob. My stuff is all east coast stuff, e.g. Bluegum, Narrow Leaf Ironbark, Stringybark, etc. Yeah will only be used as slabs for furniture. You have me beat for age, the oldest log I know for sure I cut from a big Bluegum that was washed over in a flood (undercut bank) back in...

    Milling long dead logs

Hi all, I have lots of chainsaw experience but exactly zero milling experience. I have a lot of large logs I would like to start cutting slabs from. They have all been cut into logs at least 15 yrs ago and some I know as long as 30 yrs. These are all Australian hardwood so the timber is still...

    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Hi all, does anyone have an IPL for the Stihl USG grinder? I have the owners manual, just need the IPL. thanks

Pioneer vs Viking for firewood buggy

I recently went through this for a ranch vehicle. Wanted something bigger than the quad I have (Yamaha Grizzly 700) for the same reasons as you, to simply carry more. As stated above looked at an old Ute (pick-up) but again didn't want to spend half my fixing it when it broke down. Only...

034 with 034 Super or 036 carb any HP gains?

Again I know digging up an old thread but this might help someone in the future. Just going through my Australian 034's. One has a Tillotson HK43B and the other a Walbro C3A-S4B. Which seems slightly different to the info posted earlier, perhaps due to Australian saws. I can't give any info re...

    Stihl 048 something??

I have no first hand knowledge of the 048 but on other saws such as 041, 056 etc the super and magnum designation did mean an increase in displacement. Where as the 066, calling it the magnum simply sounded better didn't change anything.

    Ray Benson

I'm also guilty of annoying Ray with requests for manuals. Great thread to publicly acknowledge his help. Thank you

    Thoughts?

    Going from memory, yes.

    Is something bent here?

Alex just beat me to it. I find it's not much more work to strip it right down.

    .404” / .050” gauge saw chain?

I've never really understood the need for the different gauges. Over here in Australia apart from 3/8 low profile I have never seen anything other than 063. Even the 325 is 063. I'm sure it's around I've just never been exposed to it. Best of luck with your choices. Pony

    .404” / .050” gauge saw chain?

    Why wouldn't you go to 404 0.063?

    stihl ms660 switch from 3/8 to 404?

I agree 404 lasts longer but I'd love to get drf255 over here in Australia and see him cut for 2 days without sharpening. Many times I have not completed a single cut through fairly hollow Ironbark without needing to sharpen. I'm not having a go at drf255, I have no doubt he has done what he...

    stihl 076 cylinder studs

Or just treat them like any other stud and lock two nuts on it and screw it out. I have had all 4 of my 076's out like that (16 studs not 4 on one saw)

    050 051 075 076 Info Thread

Are you going to use the saw? I think you will still get a bit of black staining on the bottom back of the clutch cover, at least mine do. But yours is almost to good to use, you will need to another one for use and keep that one on the shelf.

    050 051 075 076 Info Thread

Looks better than new. Why'd you go with the black muffler cover? To stop the white getting black stains on it from the exhaust?

    050 051 075 076 Info Thread

In your second last photo it appears that the small metal 'tie strap' which goes from the air filter base to the fuel tank assembly is missing. This is required for the switch to earth.

    Bar wear near sproket tip

I have also seen wear like that on a short bar when I was cutting extensively with the nose of the bar. Not boring cuts just limbing small stuff using nothing but the tip. It was a long time ago so can't say the chain wasn't a little loose, it was Australian hardwood, but the saw would have been...

    050 051 075 076 Info Thread

They will ship, I have bought one and am happy with the quality. The only bad news is that it is the cover only, it doesn't include any of the internals. Perfect if your original chainbrake cover is damaged, not so much if you are trying to convert a non-chainbrake to a chainbrake. Thanks for...

    050 051 075 076 Info Thread

Thanks for that. I had never even heard of these until I bought this latest saw. I have three others all with the normal clutch. As you would also know the clutch/ chainbrake cover is also unique to the isolating clutch so if we destroy the cover a reproduction from spengazi (spelling) won't...
