    Woodstove vs. Pellet Stove

I live in northern Maryland and have a Harman 300i fireplace insert on the main floor, a Harman Accentra pellet stove in a finished basement, and a quadrafire Cumberland Gap wood stove in my detached shop. I only burn the pellet stove when we are using the basement and went with a pellet...

    new garage heating ideas

Tonight for example, the building started at 39 deg and was 76 3 hours later. I've never really kept track of consumption. I only heat on weekends and have no shortage of wood. I heat the space with shoulder season woods such as poplar and cottonwood and mix in some black cherry from time to...

    new garage heating ideas

I have a cumberland gap stove in my shop/barn/garage/man cave, which is built similar to what you are planning with respect to insulation. Mine is a bit smaller at 24x42 but my stove doesn't struggle at all to heat the space into the upper 70s in single digit conditions. I keep my gas cans in...

    Wood stove and chainsaw

There is a second path for air to directly enter via the rear of the stove into the secondary chamber. The primary air enters from the front and "washes" past the glass. You can see one of the air supply holes at the center of this photo.

    Wood stove and chainsaw

I have a Harman 300i in a 2600 ft2 home in Northern MD. It does very well. The rear reburner works well once the stove is hot, which takes about 30 minutes. If you close the bypass too soon, the fire has a tendancy to smolder. It is a very well made stove and avoids the maintenance...

    Is it my bar?

If dressing the bar doesn't resolve the problem, the engine may be the culprit. The saw may not be making enough power to run with the bar buried in hardwood. This happened to me two years ago. Wound up replacing the carb.

    Done with shoulder wood yet?

Depends what is meant by "done". I shifted from cottonwood and tulip poplar to cherry and locust, but will shift back if/when the forecast warmup occurs.

Getting a log splitter---what makes sense.

I faced this a year or so ago. I wound up getting a used iron and oak 26 ton, gx 270 powered rental unit for $900. The splitter i bought was in great condition and has run 90 hours with only a rebuild kit for the detent on the valve. The rental company I bought it from offered that I could...

    Push mower suggestions

Get a used jd jx-75. 6.75 HP Kawasaki and blade brake clutch. One of the best at bagging mowers around. It is not quite as good at mulching. Honda hrx217hya is a good choice if you mulch most of the time, but is not that good at bagging.
