    Chunking down a spar

Well that is indeed a magic formula! Performed a good size pine removal on Friday and got every chunk to land nice and flat! Thanks again greengreer for sharing that info. Feel like my spar skills just advanced a level! :)

    Chunking down a spar

That's just the info I was looking for, thanks. I will try this tomorrow. We do about 80-90 % removals so I will get lots of practice. Also ATH is right about the size being rather large. I've gotten better at getting the shorter chunks to land flat but as this is production work my boss...

    Chunking down a spar

So its been a while since I've checked into Arboristsite, was away from the business for a while. My question is can anyone give me advice on making my chunks land nice and flat. Tired of spearing the ground with 15' chunks next to houses. Perhaps it is something that just comes with more...

    Bees.....

Well there are many considerations...sounds like he is at risk of future shock reactions and the onset of symptoms could happen much faster next time. My doc said 5-15 min is the norm for a fast reaction. Some times two hours can pass before the shock reaction begins. I was told that 2.5 min...

    Bees.....

Ok...on Friday the 16th I got stung twice by yellow jackets, never had an allergy before. I had no warning as to what was about to happen other than a metallic taste in my mouth. About 2.5 minutes later I was unresponsive, in full seizure and foaming at the mouth. My coworkers saved my life...

All that pole climbing ...? They're lookin to charge ya for somethin. Our local office gave us the runaround for six months. I kept tryin to tell 'em, we just want Internet...they couldn't get a guy out or we need a NEW modem or... Finally just called century link. I think maybe as far as...

The Newbs version of "Whadja do today?"

I am in the process now of incorporating the Hitch Climber pulley and VT in my work climbs. I really love the minimal setback of the vt. Takes me an extra minute to set up over the Blake's on a split tail, but the versatility makes up for that the first time I reposition my TIP. Ordered my...

    The Descriptive Process

    Forest thinning help?

Well your personal preference will play a large roll, but I would keep a diverse assortment of species. As ATH said, focus on removing sick, diseased, deformed, or otherwise compromised trees regardless of species. I love the idea of trying to introduce some stuff for fun. The healthiest...

mounting flashing lights on top of chipper chute?

We use cones and "tree work ahead" signs... But I'm still gonna look into some ground affects and a neon kit. :hmm3grin2orange:

    rope bridge on Weaver Cougar

The op's question needs further input.... Don't "tie in" to your side D rings.. What harness is he using? Maybe I missed something... But there should be another tie in option, if not a rope bridge then perhaps floating double D's or? Side D's are only for lanyards, fliplines.

mounting flashing lights on top of chipper chute?

Lights are cool... But is that a safety thing or just a novelty? Chipper is so loud, I can't see how a flashing light is gonna help anything But I like the idea...maybe a green neon kit for under the frame and a sparkly shiny spinning disco ball to hang from the chute... Party on!

tree workers inured by rope entering chipper

All over but the cryin after 5-8 seconds!!! As others have said. And you already know. Sorry to be beating a dead horse here...but "in the blink of an eye" actually means in the blink of an eye! In this case.

    Petzl Sequoia?

Soo, I heard that many of the Petzl work saddles really aren't rated for commercial tree work. Is that true? Fine for rec climbers but not constructed with the riggers of commercial tree work in mind... Opinions?

    Foot ascenders

Petzls have a pretty good rep although redesigned for this year. Havn't heard much feedback from the other brands or the new Petzl for that matter...heard a Petzl owner, old model, say his Euro chainsaw pants interfered with his foot ascender a little bit...think the rope kept poppin out...
