I didn't think they would need thread tape but I tightened the crap out of it and it continued to leak. Should I return it to lowes? It is on a line coming put of the valve into another thing right above the motor. I'm not sure what it is that the line is going into.

I still vote JB Weld. I'm telling you with good prep work I have saw it take care of some crazy stuff. If you will clean it up really well and then rough it up pretty good with a dremel tool the stuff will really hd some crazy stuff.

If it were mine I would JB Weld the heck out of it and see what happens. Worst thing that happens is it still leaks and you throw it away. Best case it holds and you have a free splitter. I have saw JB weld do some crazy stuff. I have also saw it fail on some of the craziest easy stuff...

I wouldn't put water in it just because of the mess it will make. I would probably just try and wait it out. Maybe put a few pieces of really green wood in there to absorb some of the heat when it is drying it out.

The old timers around here claim if you cut a tree when the signs are right the sap will be low and it will dry a lot quicker. The very same old timers say if you cut pine when the signs are right you can burn it just like oak or any other hardwood and the sap will be a non issue.

How much was this splitter? What made you buy this over a super split? Is there any major differences between the two versus color?

Looks like a White Oak to me.

I know I am the new guy and I will probably get attacked pretty hard core but if you are having to depend on financing to buy a splitter you would probably be better off to buy a Fiskars X27 and put some money in savings. I am wanting a super split so bad I can taste it but I can't bring myself...

I typically cut the wood into 14" rounds so they are more manageable for my wife to get into the stove while I am at work. I do some to 16" but I never do anything over that. The wood is never going to be a 30" round. It will most always be 24 or smaller. I guess the way I look at it I am going...
