He didn't get saw but bought an Akita Siberian Husky instead

    066 red light value?

That sux , I've been there done that, at least u know u didn't miss out and hopefully saw some new countryside and u didn't get hacked up by a crazy person!

    066 red light value?

For me personally I would make sure serial number is there and cylinder is original, looks from pic case is worn and cracked near dogs and I can't see serial number so tough to tell not in person part of handle black piece cracked, no chain brake, , only one dog, but some parts worth something...

    Modern equivalent to Stihl 044

If u only had one saw I'd say Stihl 400 but you could keep 044 for big stuff or have someone else run it for you once in a while and use smaller saw due to rotator cuff issues, I personally like a cheap rebuilt husky 350 with bigger piston, light and good enuf to 12" logs with sharp chain. Also...

    Dumb question on Stihl 044

Wow nice saw, I wouldn't worry about a chain for it, I'd put it right back in the box without using it and use the other 044 or whatever other saw you can find, I can't quite make out date of manufacture but looks like newer one bought when they were transitioning them out in late 90s and...

What is your favorite chainsaw of all time?

Stihl 044 10mm but due to vibrations I use Stihl 400c now, closest I found ... both usually with 20" bar
  7. Derrick Sawyer

    Nos 261 or get a new 400

These new saws are great, no issues with my 400c 20" bar, 462 25" bar, 592 32" bar, all light bar version, all my others saws relegated to the 'museum'

Stihl 044 Overheated... looking for opinions

Nice, better than my work, is that not original cylinder? Looks like straight fin Gilardano not usual slant fin but good cylinder either way, would be interesting what squish is and if passes pressure vac test

Stihl 044 Overheated... looking for opinions

Agree with others but do u have tools to pressure/vac test?, Is there any crank play?

Def should sound hoss when u get it running, those 460 slugs getting harder to find, 77 cc of badass, that cylinder cleaned up smooth

    592xp manners question...

Honestly not sure I would even pickup what ur describing but mine has ripped from tank 1, sounds like a friggin motorbike, got it earlier this year with OEM husky light bar 32"

    046 opinions

But personally I run 400c and 462 for less vibration and 044 046 saved for zombie apocalypse

    046 opinions

I wouldnt concern myself over the flippies unless u wanted an original OEM D cylinder that likely was only on earlier screw cap models

Looks aftermarket to me but tough to see, don't OEM have 1128s on side from mahle and an a or b circled at top? Handle sticker suggests a 2000 model, what's up with the funny pull handle
  15. Derrick Sawyer

    Stihl 044 10 mm

NIce, looks like a dandy! How do you know it's 10mm? I have a similar lookin saw and its serial number 132xxxx so very likely not 10mM but slant fin non-decomp very nice 12mm nonetheless

Stihl 066 help me id this saw

Honestly id really try and clean up that old cylinder or at least find a good used OEM but could also make sure everything else checks out (bearings, seals, carb rebuild, vac/pressure test-to determine what was the cause of the scoring) and runs fine with your aftermarket and then keep an eye...

Stihl 066 help me id this saw

Nice saw and clean too! Very similar to my 138xxxx s/n 066 flat top decomp plastic badge on front right except not hd filter, agree should be a runner!

    Stihl 044 10 mm cutoff

My 10mm sounds different due to different port in cylinder and other things but anyway if its metal tag, older style air filter cover, and 4mm wide starter cover bolts then should be 10mm unless rebuilt differently

Ms 400 C am I going to be disappointed?

My 044s are mostly retired and in my garage museum now, I only have a few used cylinders and 10mm pistons left,, 400c is great so far esp with 20" bar, but I'd go for 462 if using 25" bar, we burn 12+ cords for outdoor boiler....but if u wanted a used 044 rebuilt still cheaper than these new ones
