    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Anyone have a service manual and IPL for a Stihl 046? It would be much appreciated... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What Tachometers are you guys using?

I use a Hardline 8061. It’s the exact same product that Stihl rebrands as their EDT-9. I picked it up from Amazon for about $25.

    Will E15 gas replace E10

If it flies, floats, or f**ks, it’s way cheaper just to rent one occasionally...lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    038 AV magnum II

Don’t use just any line. It is a molded rubber hose that snaps into the plastic, so you can slide the carb in and out. For an 028 the part number is 1115 141 8600. I know the 038 is similar construction, but I don’t know if they are interchangeable. Go talk to your local Stihl dealer and...

    Embarrased to ask but......

IMO if he’s asking what chain to buy, he’s probably better off with a safety chain.

FarmerTec Huztl MS660 Updated Build Kit - Build Thread

My micrometer only reads in inches. That’s what I took my measurements in, but I used WolframAlpha to convert to metric. Piston: 2.123” or 53.924mm Cylinder Bore: 2.126” or 54mm I checked multiple spots in the cylinder bore, going from top to bottom. Readings were consistent. Sent from my...

FarmerTec Huztl MS660 Updated Build Kit - Build Thread

That was a bold statement... I do have the tools. Yet I’m not a machinist. Just kidding, no disrespect intended... Looks like my telescope gauge will be just about maxed out though, but it should work. It says it goes up to 2 1/8. I’ll pull some cylinder measurements when I have a few...

What Stihl saw do you think this is

I would lean more towards an 029. The filter cover is more block shaped and has a knob on it. The 290 has a more rounded cover with a 1/4 turn lever. I agree that an 029 should have a model plate though... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

FarmerTec Huztl MS660 Updated Build Kit - Build Thread

I’m not a machinist, but I bought a machinist’s toolbox.... I have micrometers up to 4”, but I think my telescoping gauge set only goes up to 1.5”. It’s an old General set. I’ll check when I get home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bedford, Thanks. I’m starting to read through all the previous posts now. What are you guys measuring on the new cylinders? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

FarmerTec Huztl MS660 Updated Build Kit - Build Thread

When you say larger problems what exactly are you referring to? I recently ordered one of these kits. Obviously I don’t expect it to be OEM quality, I’m mainly after the experience of building from the ground up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Carb ? on rebuilding to a larger engine

Well said... IMO the 029/290 are excellent saws, and will do almost anything that an average person needs them to. For some reason they don’t get much love. Good luck on the 350 project. I just got done replacing seals on an 044. I’m waiting on parts for another 044, then I need to find out...

Carb ? on rebuilding to a larger engine

I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing. I just can’t bring myself to do it yet, as my 029 and 290 are both still running strong. I did muffler mod my 029 a few years ago, and I have been thinking about going with an 039 cylinder. I may order one just to have on the shelf. My piston and...

    Stihl 044 Rebuild

I don’t think the 044 ever had a 20mm wrist pin. They were 10mm on the early ones, then moved on to 12mm if I’m not mistaken. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stihl Multipurpose Grease

I’ve got some of the same stuff. Some regular amber colored stuff, and some that’s red colored...supposed to be hi-temp for disc brakes. I had tried to find some info on grease in a few other threads, and that left me thinking that it was some kind of sin to use anything other than the factory...

    Stihl Multipurpose Grease

It wasn’t too bad... $3.99. Obviously a little more than a regular #2 grease, but not too bad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
