    Chain tension?

I have roughly 1/4 oil tank left per tank of gas so she seems to be oiling fine. I'll take a closer look at my bar to make sure nothing is going on there. May be time to swap that out. Sprocket is basically new. Thanks again guys.

    Chain tension?

Thanks a bunch for the info guys, much appreciated. I grabbed a new chain from my local Stihl dealer, compared, yup, chain is stretched. I couldn't figure why all my chains were stretched. I remember now that last fall, there were a few days in a row that I was bucking some huge oak logs...

    Chain tension?

I'll play with it a little, do some counting, check the sprocket, take a photo or two and post up. Thanks guys!

    Chain tension?

Nope, didn't count the drive links by hand. I kind of figured two different bars with two different chains each, same result should mean something else is going on. Agreed though, I can/should count em. Sprocket is basically new. Bar tips looks in good shape, on both bars. Everything looks...

    Chain tension?

Yup, pretty sure I am good there too. I can see the tension adjuster moves all the way out and bottoms out at that little plastic piece. Thanks!

    Chain tension?

Thanks for cranking through the mathematics man! I haven't done calculus in better than a decade. More info... It kinda seems like it has progressively/slowly gotten worse over time. I started to notice it a while back, brought it into the Stihl shop, fella said that chain was...

    Chain tension?

Hey fellas, I can't quite get this figured?? Stihl 361... Chain tensioner is maxed out and I can still stick my finger in between the chain and bar. Way too loose. I pulled the tension assembly apart and everything looks intact. Just seems to bottom out before the chain gets tight...

I believe my forest is being over run!

Good call, looks like Glossy Buckthorn. I may be in for a whole lot of pulling, cutting and herbicide: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/woody/buckthorn/control.html Maybe I'll wait till it's not 100 degrees and 100 % humidity!

I believe my forest is being over run!

Yup, they sure do in the fall. I believe that there might be red ones mixed in some too.

I believe my forest is being over run!

By this... At first it seemed to be just in the back corner of my property, maybe 50 by 75 yards of it, or so. That was about 2 years ago. Now it seems to have grown to probably about an acre or more! What was once rather open forest is now choked with this stuff and I can see new sprouts...

Buy new or repair the old??

Nah... I'd pull the trigger on a Jack in a heartbeat if the shipping wasn't so darned expensive. Which I completely understand why it is, heck it's a great big heavy piece of iron! At a 1400 mile round trip picking it up it costs me even more in fuel and a room for a night. Just wish I...

Buy new or repair the old??

Thanks guys for the replies and info, appreciate that! Yah, GPETER I'm wit ya! Welding, just like any other skill I'm sure, takes time to develop and produce quality stuff. I am really annoyed that is a skill that I don't have, but I'll fix that at some point. Still undecided about my...

Buy new or repair the old??

I am so mad at myself for not taking welding in high school, sure pre calculous, Honors History, and on.... No welding class, man what a dummy! I have dabbled in some stick welding but I'm not very good. I think if I could find a welder on craigslist for cheap I'd prolly jump on one. I've...

Buy new or repair the old??

As for $$... It's one of those things where if it has to be done I will invest in quality. I sure don't have $1500 to $2500 laying around trying to spend itself. If it must be done than it must be done and I know I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep knowing that I bought a quality piece of...

Buy new or repair the old??

Yup, that would be the gamble part of the equation. Of course the other side would be to move it, fix it, move it back, run it for x number of years trouble free. I am glad that I have a long time before the cold weather comes back to stew on it! Cheers!

Buy new or repair the old??

I wish I could weld then the answer would be a bit easier for me! If I have it repaired I really don't feel as though it would be a quick/cheap fix as Kieth mentioned. Having another plate of steel welded in the fire box means that it would be twice the thickness it was, in other words, more...

Buy new or repair the old??

Thanks for chiming in gpeter! Yah, I am with ya. My guess would be that my fab guy could make it happen for probably about $200, give or take. I would be working hard to keep my budget for a new set up at the $1500 mark. I'd rather not spend that money if I don't have to, but at the same...

Buy new or repair the old??

Hey Fellas! Here is what I have... To my knowledge this was installed when the house was originally built 34 years ago. The previous owner used it and I have used it since we bought the place 3 winters ago. This Energy Mate is awesome! Each of the past three winters I have burned...
