Oregon rim sprocket on Stihl 028 AV

It was the brake band! I engaged it and disengaged it and the drum dropped straight on which is strange as I had done that before and it didnt make a difference. Is the brake band adjustable? Time for a quick clean and reassemble to see if it works! Thanks everyone.

Oregon rim sprocket on Stihl 028 AV

It looks like the Oregon drum has a slight taper in at the base. Most of the side is straight but the last 10% tapers in by a few thou. I guess this combined with being slightly narrower than the original makes it stick when fully inserted. I am wondering if they are all like this or if I...

Oregon rim sprocket on Stihl 028 AV

Ok, have taken it apart and the Oregon drum is 0.020" smaller inside diameter. The part numbers are: Stihl original 1118/01 Oregon drum 29917 The drums drops on ok for 3/4 then the last 1/4 is really tight. Wondering if I have the correct kit for my saw! J

Oregon spur sprocket on stihl 028

Hi folks, I needed to replace the sprocket on my 028av so I decided to buy an Oregon rim sprocket kit for. Just tried to fit it and found the drum that fits over the clutch is a very tight fit and because of this the saw wont turn the sprocket. Any suggestions on fixing this? Thanks J

Hi Folks, I have just aquired a Stihl 028 AV Super that has been passed down a few generations. Its a little rough around the edges but runs well. It seems like a good saw so I would like to keep it going. Will be replacing the bar and chain as they are very worn plus probably replace the...
