    Shopping for new helmet

Me too. It wasn't cheap, but I'll never go back to a tin lid. I say to it, "Where were you all these years!" :)

Where's WYK been, and what trouble is he making?

Me too. Just as long as the fad's demise isn't caused by hypocritical green preachers like Gore and Suzuki.

    Tree spiker to head BLM????

Well, I can't speak for the US, but on this side of the border, every time a federal or provincial government puts someone with a CV like hers in charge of a Ministry or agency it has been an unmitigated disaster for folks who make their living off the land. EVERY time.

Are Loggers Making 3 Times More Money Now That Lumbers Prices Have Tripled?

Local fellow is paying $650 CAD per MBF ($515 USD) for white cedar logs. That's up from $550 CAD ($435 USD) in January 2021 and $500 CAD ($395 USD) in 2019.

    Home built log trailer

The cable-release system I have in mind will work along these lines. That's where I got the idea - from the logging trucks I used to load in BC back in the 70s. Until I get it rigged up properly I will doing all the unloading from the safety of my tractor cab. I've already had more than my...

    Home built log trailer

A couple of months ago I picked up a 7-ton John Deere running gear for $350.00 CDN. There was a bend in the reach about 14 inches from one end, so I split the wagon and cut off the bent part. With that piece cut off, I am still able to get from 7' to 11' between the bunks. The bunks are 6" x...

    Falling pics 11/25/09

"Frozen ash has a higher percentage of barberchairing so I leave a small hinge and usually chase that as the tree is headed down." Okay. That explains it. On the leaners I do a plunge cut and leave a hinge and then cut through the strip that's left at the back. That pretty well eliminates...

Reliability of Echo cs680 and Husqvarna 572xp saws

I DO have good reliable dealers for both Echo and Husqvarna saws in this area. I do NOT have reliable dealers for other makes....so that's why I am only asking about the reliability of these two chainsaws.

Reliability of Echo cs680 and Husqvarna 572xp saws

I would appreciate some honest, first-hand, feedback from anyone who has actually owned and operated either of these saws for a year or two. I am not considering other saw brands simply because I don't have reliable dealers/shops for other brands in the immediate area. I know the specs of these...

What You Should Do If You Get Hurt in the Woods When Alone

Lesson number 5: don't get a German Shepherd from Quebec - must be the government-run daycare system ruining their instincts! ;)

What You Should Do If You Get Hurt in the Woods When Alone

Well, I always thought that if I got hurt in a logging related accident it would be way in the bush. But it can happen pretty close to home. On April 1st last year I did some skidding and bucking till about 4:30 pm and parked the skidder beside our garage. I went out at 6 pm to throw a tarp...

    Hourly Rates Small Skidder

I expect that's what might happen here. Once I give him the figure in CDN$ all of a sudden he won't need a skidder very badly. That's okay.

Thanks for the thought. He's handling/paying for the floating there and back.

    Hourly Rates Small Skidder

Sounds like a number between $80 and $100 is the answer. I'll post the same question over on FF too. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know the outcome.
