What is your favorite all around Stihl chainsaw ?

Favorite all-arounder for me? Probably something 50 or 60cc range. If I only had my ms362, I think I'd be alright. Ms261 would be another option.

    Why I love a 50cc saw.

It would appear they aren't being sold in the USA anymore. I'm not sure if they're still available elsewhere. I'm afraid I haven't used any Echo saws, but there's plenty of folks on here who swear by then.

    Why I love a 50cc saw.

If you could get your hands on a ms241, that would be a great option.

    Bar size for MS462 ?

I ran a 462 with 28" and 32" bars and full comp chains over the weekend in a nice, big red oak. No issues whatsoever. 20" would seem pretty short to me on a 462. I wouldn't want less than a 25" for that saw, but that's just me.

Best saw to buy for firewood?

Can confirm that the 261 is fantastic. Ran one yesterday. Probably the best thing going for a 50cc saw.

Best saw to buy for firewood?

I think any of the saws you've mentioned will cut what you want cut. Here are a few general principles that I've discovered: 1) Weight matters, and lighter is better. 2) You can cut almost anything with 18-20" bars, but being able to run still longer bars can help you work safer (i.e., you...

I'll never need a bigger saw (wrong!)

    You get it! :clap::chainsaw:

I'll never need a bigger saw (wrong!)

Sure, but none of those points help me justify buying a bigger saw.:laugh::dizzy:

    Is there any other way?

I'll never need a bigger saw (wrong!)

Agreed on the big saws - lots of fun! Getting to run a 462 yesterday was quite a treat. It's a really impressive saw. Smooth and powerful, and surprisingly light. The big bars make it nose heavy, but that really wasn't a problem bucking. And it didn't even blink when we buried a 32" bar...

But... But then I don't get to buy another saw!

I'll never need a bigger saw (wrong!)

This red oak made my 362 look puny. My uncle's 462 was faring better. Where's a 500i when you need one? o_O

    16"/18" bar on MS362?

I like a 20" on my 362. It does just fine with a 25", though.

Ms 500i (are you put off?)

It's a stretch to say that I need a 500i. But I still want one. I'm not inclined to do any major work on my saws. I don't have the capability or knowledge to do so. The computerized parts of the saw aren't things I would otherwise mess with.

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

    Congratulations on your new saw!

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

This is the only sensible solution.

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

If I had a scale handy that could do it, I'd weigh my 201 rear handle for you. With a 16" bar, chain, and full tanks, it might be 11 pounds. It's wonderfully light and nimble, and very well balanced. For me, I wanted a light saw, with power being secondary. Here in the Midwest, I'm...

Any legal minds? How can aftermarket company's make...

"Patent" Patents are for useful inventions, and have a relatively short lifespan. "Copyright" is for art, works of creation, etc., which are not useful or employed for a purpose beyond being appreciated for the inherent value of its existence. Copyrights expire, but last for much longer than...

Any legal minds? How can aftermarket company's make...

In manufacturing, it's not uncommon that the tooling for making a particular part or product is sold to an aftermarket manufacturer once its no longer useful to the original owner. I.E., Stihl stops making Saw X to replace it with Saw Y. The tooling used to make Saw X can't be repurposed. So...

Any legal minds? How can aftermarket company's make...

On a different note, there's a strategic decision to be made whether to encourage the aftermarket. Allowing the aftermarket to exist (or even encourage it by the application of permissive license agreements) can be a way to recapture profit and grow market share. If you see a trademark logo on...
