    Want to Buy SP-81 Cylinder

Hey guys, Looking for an SP-81 cylinder in good shape since no one seems to re-chrome blind cylinders anymore. This is the last piece to the restoration. I have NOS "C" piston but I wouldn't be opposed to any cylinder, piston + cylinder, or even a complete saw in any condition with a good top...

    Ever wonder why?

Bingo! I laugh when I see college kids think they’re gonna turn everything “green”. You won’t do that until every oil company has gotten every last drop of oil from every crevice of this earth. Simple as that.

Need parts for an old McCulloch

Get that thing off the concrete if that’s where you store it. eBay will also be your best bet in most cases. Someone made repro kits for the McCulloch flatback carb but his name is escaping me at the moment. He could possibly have what you need.

    Mcculloch 1 40 timing issue

Just rotate the motor until the cam on the crank is on it’s base circle; you’ll know this when the points don’t get any farther away from each other. Make sure they’re clean and not worn too much. Set them to the specified gap and see what you got. Maybe play around with it a little and set them...

    Sorry I have to ask?

Did that particular motor sit for a long time before you tried it? I’ve never used sea foam, I’ve just read a lot on what it does and how. I find it hard to believe that sea foam would increase compression/enhance ring seal on an otherwise healthy, fairly worn motor. If this were true to even...

    Jonseruds 90 Parts needed!

If you’re going to cut your own gasket, make sure it’s not overly thick. Try to save a piece of your old one and get as close to it as possible. Remember, the old one is compressed a bit so add a little bit to that value when you get new material. Saw gaskets are generally pretty thin.

    Jonseruds 90 Parts needed!

eBay is your best bet but unfortunately you have to be patient and if/when you see an item come up that you could ever need, snag it. chainsawr.com also could help you. If you don’t see it on their site, call them. Parts saw is another option. And perhaps the best. As far as splitting the...

    Bearings and gas.

I’ve always used diesel or lacquer thinner with good results. Not just on saw cases either. I see no problem with using gas, so long as there’s no residue left behind and it’s dried. I know of a lot of people who use gas to wash parts before paint, so I don’t buy into the gas causing oil to be...

    Homelite C5

Just use a modern day mix of at least 40:1 (32:1 is definately a better idea) and try to keep it ethanol-free with the older saws. The modern mix offers far superior protection than the old oil. Keep an ear out for bad crank seals and carb issues the more you run it, and it should serve you...

Buying some saws for nostalgia sake?

Any variation of a McCulloch 10-10 (10-10A, Pro 10-10, 10-10S, etc) would be my thought. Power/weight is pretty good too. Parts are plentiful and they’re easy to work on. That’s a ~54cc saw but McCulloch also had 70cc and 80cc saws on a similar platform. Those are SP-80, SP-81’s, Pro Mac 70...

    McCulloch I-70 rebuild

If you soak them in laquer thinner or another solvent it’ll help a lot with the hard to reach areas. Nothing wrong with not having a blast cabinet either; but it’s a big help. I bought one for saws but I find myself using it weekly for anything from people’s tow hitches to engine parts.

    McCulloch I-70 rebuild

Good info but I would personally not go through all this only to not use an etching primer. I generally do an etching, sealer, and then SS or 2 part Urethane. I’ve yet to have gas be an issue and the paint is plenty durable and sets up nicely. I do agree on the oxidization part being a...

    Husqvarna ID numbers

IIRC all of the 372xp’s had 2 rings. I may have this backwards, but either the very early 372xp’s were single ring just like the 371xp’s, or the very late 371xp’s had 2 rings. You can still find a single ring piston for the 50mm bore from Husky. I got one ~4 months ago from my dealer for a...

    Pro Mac 700

IIRC they have a Q-port I believe it’s called on the top of the exhaust port. Supposed to act as a decomp at starting speeds.
