Finishing a cut with a different saw

Bluish/dark streaks from long gone ferrous metal are seen quite often in very old 'yard trees'' in most places. This was some large White Oak (that originally was growing just a few blocks northeast of me) my tree service contact dumped in my backyard Dec.2013.You can see the streaks/spots that...

    Disposing of cut wood?

I use for kindling/fire starter pretty much everything from 1" to 2"" diameter.Anything less than 1" diameter is piled up for wildlife cover.Leaving smaller tops/branches in longer rough lengths in a pile, when I get back to them often weeks or months later I'll cut them in shorter lengths...

    McCulloch 125 Super Pro

The ones in the last years of production 1975-early 1977 had the operator presence lever in the rear handle with throttle lock.My 3 slightly earlier 125's (CP125,stock 125C,125C with 101B kart engine) have just that throttle lock button separately with a ''solid'' cast magnesium rear handle.

Want to Buy Homelite 450 / maybe 550

450 is 74cc,550 is 84cc.Great saws,I have one of each, both strong runners.Guessing from some my literature & ChainSaw Age magazine ads,the 550 was introduced first, around late 1978/early 1979,then the 450 was after that around 1980-81. The legendary 750 was introduced June 1978,according to a...

Did You Get Anything Saw Related For Christmas?

Nothing this year.Wasnt really anything that I needed or wanted, that I could think of anyway. So I didnt bother giving out a list of ''hints'' to various family members.... The best Christmas present I could get (or any other kind) is still being alive.Actually not just alive but stronger now &...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

That dont bother me,since the wood gets further processing once its drier.I've always used skip chain on bars 24" or longer.Gives a little more power, more chip clearance in bigger heavy cuts, plus is a little quicker to file especially on extra long bars.Only drawback is sometimes it can really...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Used my PM850 a week or so back to rough out some short slabs of local Green Ash (curbside find a few blocks away) All the smaller stuff picked up by others or run through the chipper before I got there. That's OK,I prefer logs 14"diameter minimum to 36" or so.I can get all the smaller stuff (12"...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

If I remember correctly,my 288XPW with 28" bar/new out the box milling chain went through roughly 4.5 gallons of 40-1 mix this May-June when milling 2 Black Walnut logs in neighbor's backyard - One log 14" at small end,20" at large end,73" length other log was 20" at small end,25" at butt...

    Pioneer chainsaws

    My P42 is quite impressive for a 66cc stock saw,handles a 24" bar/chain buried in local hardwoods no problem,but I normally keep a 20" on there for best RPM's.

    Mast year

My Shagbark Hickories (most of them) are just full of nuts this year, best year since 2013.I've picked up 6-7 pounds a few days ago, hope to get another 5-6 pounds in week or so.If my back would cooperate I could get 15 pounds per acre if I really wanted..Leaving the majority of them for...

    Black Walnut trees for removal

Neighbor's landlord (they're just renting the house) to my south about 50 feet had a decent Black Walnut removed on May 6th.Owner of small tree service (3 man crew including the main guy) dont burn wood himself or even sell it,unlike most small-medium sized tree companies round here.I asked for...
