The sand casts are the earliest models, the paint has worn off. Regarding fine details, each saw has its own fingerprint, as there were so many variable parts

Picked up some of a Stihl 070 and some parts

Interesting, a contra clutch and a 1/2" drum. Check the clutch side of the muffler for a date, wouldn't mind seeing the bars too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

200t in a skip?! Yeah you suck! Try chainsawbars.co.uk for bars for your saws, they'll look nice with sugi bars Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Venturi size is the main difference, other than needle location on the newer carburettors. The larger Venturi draws less fuel, so can run larger bars. I think skallywag posted up the sizes a while back, but between the hl112a (which I think is 20mm) and the ones used on the 090, (hl two hundred...

They're not designed to run that way, the vane limits them to 7.5krpm. The saw was built for low down torque! As the muffler is extremely free flowing, you don't get much coking of the ports either. In regards to wear, you have to remember, the every saw pictured in this thread as a contra is...

    041 AV problem

It sounds like the carb needs an overhaul kit which is a carb kit with new needles and what-not. I also recommend disassembling the carb and putting it through an ultrasonic cleaner. Spark sounds a little weak, it should produce a nice, fat blue spark, but the orange could be plug fouling...

Yes, without the wind-vane they will go up to 11krpm, but at this point, they eat bearings up at an alarming rate! Due to the repairabilty design of the 1106 series of saws, this is likely to mean new bearings, seals, crankshaft, piston and cylinder every 20 hours. The majority of participants...

    041 AV problem

Yes, you plug it into the pipe as though its drawing fuel, it should release pressure around 15-20psi. Out of interest is the 041 you have an electronic or points ignition model? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Introducing the Stihl MS201TC - MTronic

Just as a note brad, I was informed that the m-tronic and autotune systems are programmed to run slower for the first few hours of running (5-10) during the break-in period. The husky 560/562/ j'red 2260 is limited to 13.5krpm for run-in, but opens up to around 13.8 - 14.2krpm after. Sent from...

The easiest way to check is to remove the gasket and turn it over slowly to see if it contacts the cylinder head, if you're still unsure, the squish can be checked with a length of twisted solder. Although 150psi is very high for a 100+cc saw, I bet the 090GS is a pig to start! My contra was...

Interesting, I hadn't given thought to different transfers (I'd assumed they were the same), but that would explain the increase of power. I wonder how much different the porting is? Have you used a paper or liquid gasket on the cylinder? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stihl 070 stalls in cut

No, it works on an impulse to operate a ratchet mechanism on the pump, the idle impulse won't be strong enough to pump oil. And yes, buy the other two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used a plastic piston stop, and set the points by watching it bob up and down, guessing! I've probably set the timing a bit earlier than 3mm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stihl 070 stalls in cut

Oiler is powered by crank impulse. Had you said the saw bogs then I wouldn't have bothered talking about the clutch, but you'll know for future :P The new clutch shoes don't have linings on them, if your dealer has lined shoes, buy them up as they're NOS parts! That wouldn't cause clutch slip, it would cause fading, but it would answer why your cylinder had transfer. Had the governor been fitted correctly, that would have been the primary indicator of a lean mixture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A larger Venturi carburettor creates a leaning effect. Volume for volume, there is no difference in fuel/air. And in terms of two stroke tuning, a leaner mixture is faster, more powerful and hotter. The carb makes little difference to a correctly tuned stock saw, especially between the HL112 and...

Hmm, I don't see how a better pick-up can't be a good thing. The carburettor make no difference to how the saw runs, because regardless of Venturi size or jet flow, the saw will always require the same fuel to air ratio given set constraints. Compression is power, but comparing a gear...
