Has anyone done this? And what main challenges did you run into? Stihl said the manual carb for a 660 would be something like $70. And pointed out that my current outer case has three positions on the choke lever wheras manual carb would have four.

Hi, I milled an eastern red aromatic cedar yesterday and left it on the driveway overnight. Tofay, each of the 3" - 4" slabs had started cracking along the length. Is this normal? Thanks

Thanks, I think I'll mill to 6" slabs and then re-saw a bit later. This has me debating whether to spend the $100 on a bandsaw riser, for the ability to re-saw 12" wide.

Thanks for the replies! To clarify, I was thinking of cutting with the chainsaw Mill the full width of the tree, but 6 in thick. This would allow me to then resaw as many 6 inch wide boards as I can get out of the width of the tree. Another option to help with drying, might be to cut said 6...

If you were milling 18-24" cedars for furniture... would you cut full width slabs say 5/4 thick and later plane to 3/4"? Or would you cut to 6" and later re-saw perpendicular to the chainsaw cut, to 3/4" x 6" wide? Was thinking the 6" slabs would dry straighter (albeit more slowly) and waste...

I'm just a newbie but id suggest getting them in a flat place (horizontally), stickering with narrow stickers... at least 3 stickers or every 18" of length (whichever uses more stickers), and putting a lot of weight on top of the boards. Your biggest challenge will probably be cupping, followed...

Thanks! I should have mentioned, but I'm the 6th picture, those low leaves are from a nearby sapling. The first leaves on these trees are 40+ feet up. They do in person however look wider than a shingle or willow oak leaf. May have to go back with binoculars to get a better view. Other...
