    Does sharpening angle matter?

I don't know if this is helpful, but I just try and go parallel to the witness mark on the top of the chain. I would rather touch up in the woods than replace the chain. I file by hand like Cliff and really prefer this method. If the chain is really bad, I will use the dremel rotary tool. If...

Husqvarna Autotube carbs = more parts to fix? ~$500 20" saw recommendations

FWIW- I own both the 545 mark2 and the Echo Timberwolf. The 545 has about 20 tanks run time and the Timberwolf has 11. The main question is, what size and type of wood are you cutting? Are you considering the 20" bar for reach, or greater wood diameter? If you're cutting wood that requires...

Why so difficult to tune a Stihl 361?

Yeah my Husqvarnas and my echo are really easy to hear the four stroke. FWIW, my 361 has a small muffler mod. In all fairness, I'm paranoid and usually tune my saws a little richer/slower than max listed RPMs. The 361 is my only Stihl and maybe they just aren't as tolerant for that.

Why so difficult to tune a Stihl 361?

I'm not an expert tuner but I have noticed similar characteristics. With a 20" bar, If I tune it so I can easily hear it four stroke, it will seem to rich in the cut. If I tune it in the cut, It's really hard to hear it four stroke with no load. And it's anywhere from 14,200 to 14,500. Those...

Hand Filing - Just Give It A Go

It doesn't have to be perfect to cut. Nothing wrong with what you're doing. But you can drive yourself crazy trying to get it perfect. I used to be really obsessive about it. Then I realized I was filing more than I was cutting. The main thing is that you touch up often.

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

I am a Husky guy but I really admire the 361. I finally got a used one and they are pretty neat. It just took me a while to get used to how high they rev. They seem a little harder to tune the high side because they scream. But a guy good buy one new and never have to do anything to it but...

Husqvarna 550XP Mkii OR Stihl MS 261 C-M

I agree with others in that you should go and handle both saws. I know some people make a big deal of the weight/size gain when Husky went to the mark II. I have a 545 mark II and its heavier and longer than my 50 cc 346xp but I don't notice it when I am cutting. To me, the more you have to...

    I relapsed on my CAD

good choice. I have the red version 2260 and I doubt you will be disappointed. Fast, smooth, powerful. CAD is CAD: you can have money or you can have stuff. Sometimes its better to have stuff.

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

I'm biased but the 60cc saw is very popular versatile size. Some timber guys use them. A lot of firewood guys use them. It seems like the power/weight/price is just about the right combo for a broad range of uses. One thing we have to remember is that this is a collectors site. Some...

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

Sorry to hear about that. Generally hear good things about the 6100. I ran another 1-1/2 tanks through the Timberwolf and it didn't miss a beat. But the only reason I would buy it over the Husqvarna 555, 562 would be budget. I would encourage you to go handle both saws. Hell, If you...

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

yes the 357 is very intriguing. I voted earlier 359 because that chassis is so ergonomic. The only problem, the 357's/2156 are vary scarce right now. The ones that do pop up for sale are really expensive.

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

Vibes, FWIW I just picked up an Echo 590 Timberwolf and already have a Jonsered 2260 (similar to a 562xp). They are both great saws. I ran 6 tanks through the Timberwolf and it has really impressed me. Even brand new it still has a lot of power. The 2260 is a tad lighter and little better...

    Sold Jonsered CS2258

I just ran 2260 the other day and would urge someone to grab this one up. Great power and they handle really well. I think the Jonsereds are the best looking saws. The fact they are now discontinued should make them even more desirable.

BEST 60cc saw ever built !!!!

For cutting speed I like my JRed 2260. But it's a 2013 model. Knowing the issues they develop that didn't get fixed until 2016? I cant say its best overall. I just picked up an Echo 590 Timberwolf and I'm extremely impressed. It's a little heavier than the 2260,359,361 but it's not bad by...

    Thoughts of Husqvarna 555

I own a Jonsered 2260 that's similar in size and weight to the 555. I love it. It's not just the power it's the handling. It balances with a 20" solid bar like your 2159. I only have 17 tanks on it, none in weather above 70 deg.

    87 octane in ms270?

I don't understand why Stihl and Echo recommend 89 octane. For one thing, chainsaws are low compression compared to other engines. I respect Madsens but many folks are using 87 on here. Not because they're cheap, because they cant find non ethanol with higher octane ratings. I bought gas...

    Narrow kerf bar/chain

I have been using the Oregon 95VP .325. It works great if your cutting a lot of limbs. When bucking logs, my 545 mark ii cuts faster with LPX . I have seen videos where a 346xp cut faster with narrow kerf than standard LPX.

    20" Light Weight Bar Thread

The Australian made GB bars are awesome. I have an old PRO-TOP that is light and very durable. I check it for burs from time to time. I seriously don't think I had to touch the rails until after the 3rd chain.

    MS261 C-M VS 550 XP Mk II

To the OP, did you like the way the 261 handled? If so, buy it and don't look back. Weight doesn't matter to me as much as balance and handling.
