That little saw should serve you well with a bit of TLC

    Opinions on this Piston/Cylinder

looks fine to me. I would also clean out around the bottom end area it looks to have quite a bit of debris in around that area

    Dads nice 365 special

Yeah I remember reading somewhere that closed port was generally a better design In stock form I felt this saw was a bit underpowered. But there nice to use that's for sure

    Dads nice 365 special

Interesting that the cylinders could have a different transfer design in the same year... would the be any difference in the way that open ports run to the closed ?

    Husqvarna 550xp Disassembly

Be also very careful not to loose the little orings that go in between the plastic air filter mount and the carb They can drop out or be easily blown out with compressed air if not carefull

    Husqvarna 550xp Disassembly

Especially if your already pulling the cylinder Yes sorry i see your point, the carb is actually quite easy to remove mostly but I once tried to remove the intake on one without removing the cylinder and they are extremely difficult

    Husqvarna 550xp Disassembly

No you don't but it makes it easier, especially if your already pulling the cylinder

    Husqvarna 550xp Disassembly

One of the biggest performance upgrades to do on your little 550 is a simple muffler mod, look up a good thread on this site and follow that, It's good for at least 10-15% power increase and better throttle response

    Husqvarna 550xp Disassembly

Then on reinstalation it's the same deal Fit the intake and carb to the jug and reinstall, there is also a lot less chance of folding over the rubber intake boot and creating a air leak
