What's a name have to do with it?

I rolled my eyes when I saw the Bad Boy mowers. I couldn't believe anyone would buy something that expensive with such a stupid name. Then I started looking at them and they are very well built. I want one! Earthquake and wild thing are no brainers, of course, but what's wrong with Airens?

What are those depth gauges set at? .090?

    Some days

I hit a ceramic fence insulator in the center of a big ash trunk. That really put a hurtin' on my brand new 84DL chain. I couldn't believe when I finally got it cut from the other side. This piece was was about 24" diameter and the insulator was right in the middle of it. The nail was rusted...

Which gas cap do you prefer?

I've only had one saw with flippy caps. An MS260. I liked the flippy caps for the most part until one day I overfilled the bar oil and absolutely could not get the damn thing back on. It didn't just make a mess, it actually would not go in due to hydraulic pressure. When I finally dumped some...

    Age and heat

This happens to me a lot if I have the bar burried in bigger logs. I just drag the chain across the log a few times to give it a push and free it up. I always thought it was just sawdust packed in the sprocket tip of the bar, though I never stopped and pulled the bar off to check.

    WHO HERE BLIPPS ?

Guilty! Blipping and piss revving for me. It's so addictive that I catch myself doing it with air tools and electric power tools now.

New to me 024AV Wood Boss... Long stroke?

That's what the front of my case looks like, too. I think you have a case that will accept both tensioners. Many of them were made this way. All I am saying is that maybe some of the 024AV WB came with side tensioners, although doubtful, or somebody converted this one at some point. The only...

New to me 024AV Wood Boss... Long stroke?

See my post above. My saw is definately not a super. I believe it was made in '86. That is the date etched on the original 16" bar.

New to me 024AV Wood Boss... Long stroke?

My 024AV WB has the holes in the crankcase for both front and side tensioners. It was originally equipped with front tensioner, but I bought the side tensioner parts and converted it. I even ground the center bar out of the clutch cover and added the tensioner access hole. can't even tell that...

    026 Project

I love the MS260 plastics with the 026 badge! I've been looking for nice 026 plastics for a while now, but I may just do this.

    Well... This sucks!

This happened to me on my 024AVS. This was before I knew anything about saws and I kept trying to use it and re tune it. Amazingly enough, when I finally found the loose jug bolts, there was no damage done to the piston or cylinder. I'm not sure how I got that lucky, but I now check the bolts...

Which first Saw? It's about time!!

Looks like you made a great buy. Since this is your only saw, (for now), I would go and buy either a 16" or 20" bar and chain for it. You can use whichever bar suits your needs but if you get your saw stuck, you can just use your other bar and chain to get it unstuck.

I dumped gas out of a VERY low hour saw..

I just sold a saw to my old high school shop teacher a while back. He said he always washes off the oil and gas caps with a trickle of fuel mix before unscrewing them. I thought this was a great idea, but I hate the thought of wasting fuel, even if its just a few tablespoons.

    My Tach Installation (Stihl MS-441 R C-M) -- Looks nice, but...bad idea?

Excellent work! I was just about to purchase that same tach in orange, too. My only concern was that I couldn't find any info on the refresh rate. Do you happen to know the refresh rate on this tach?

Wow, that's tempting. I might PM you in a couple of weeks. Right now I have a couple medical bills to pay and no sawbucks.

I saw there were a few others in there. I really like that 026. Been looking for more of those. This is a dead 260 I bought last month and reconditioned. Came out pretty nice and really made me hunger for more!
