    The Fire Pit Thread

My smoker with 2 butts on it last 4th of July at 2am. Didn't get much sleep that night... And finally, my temporary chicken pits. Those stainless grates spin 360 degrees making it easy-peasy to drink beer and tend chickens. Did 50 halves last 4th of July, all on charcoal and small sugar maple...

    The Fire Pit Thread

Our social party pit all cleaned out last spring, ready for the first party. This one gets some BIG chunks of wood when the beer is good. This one is for cooking on when people are over in the summer...

    The Fire Pit Thread

We have 4 or 5 different pits around the place. A couple for just campfires, one for cooking while people are camping here in the summer, one just for slow cooking chicken halves (did 50 halves last 4th of July). Most of my pics are on my phone, but here's one of a little pit up in the edge of...

    Hydraulic Log Splitter-concept question

Me too. It would have to maintain surface area but cut down on volume somehow.

    Hydraulic Log Splitter-concept question

Build one and post some pics and a video. You'll get "real world" feedback here. This is what a lot of these guys do for a hobby, including myself. Some guys here also sell piles of firewood every year. The theory sounds good, but the proof is in the pudding, or so they say. You can use the...

what do you see in this wood pile

Looks like cherry and maple to me. I'd give $100 for it dumped at my place. Probably has some fencing in it as previously mentioned. Keep that in mind.

Just thought I would throw that out there. What about an older Suzuki LT80? About the perfect size for a 10 year old. I've got one coming this summer for my 9 and 11 year old. They had fairly good suspension and a little 2 stroke that scoots right along.

If had the cash right now, it would be mine. Nice quad and great deal. I have a golf cart I bought for my wife n kids to tool around with. Maybe that's more they're pace? I would trade with extra cash if interested.

    Show us your rack

They're empty right now, but I'm trying these this year. I've built 5 and plan to build a handful more to see how they work. Planning on getting forks for the tractor this spring and hopefully I can move these when full without an issue. They're small, only hold about 1/6 cord, but if they work...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

Wow that looks nice there! Great pictures and nice logs and wood stacks. Is that outdoor wood furnace that hungry or do you sell some?

An afternoon in the woods with the boy

Got it all split up today. I'll stack it into these racks this week after work. I built 5 of these small racks and plan to build more very soon. I cut fork pockets into the bottom rails and plan to buy forks for my tractor soon. Hopefully this works out alright for moving the racks in the...

    New ds stove.. got questions..

What does the manual call for? I'm no flue & chimney expert, but it looks like you have the wrong type of pipe installed, like the others said. The pipe should be rated for a solid fuel appliance, not a gas appliance. Pipe direction is important and there should not be tape on pipe for a...

What's this Federal Airtight stove worth? I'm with no knowledge :)

I had the same stove, gave it away for free on Craigslist a couple years ago. Bought an englander nc-30 and never looked back.

An afternoon in the woods with the boy

Steer it, of course! I let him pull it out of the barn for me today for the first time. Low range at idle. He got a kick out if it. He's a very cautious person when he knows it counts, which is a great virtue. He puts his "serious face on" as my wife likes to say...lol
