Manual pole saw? Infrequent use, but long-term ownership

I've got pole saws from HD and from Lee Valley. Both are fine, although one locking method is a twist lock which I find can lead to slippage if you don't crank down on the tightener. Either way, I'd suggest getting the saw with the branch cutter rope thing, as that's very useful. I use mine...

    New Milwaukee Cordless Chainsaw

Have the Echo 58v which I use for light duty (limbing and small saplings, usual homeowner/camp duty dealio). Second battery I got last year died and won't charge so warranty covers that. Also have Milwaukee Fuel tools so tempted when I saw this new offering. Up in Canada, they have a deal where...

    ECHO 58 Volt Cordless Chainsaw

good thing this thread exists, as I found a pretty nice deal on a display Echo at HD. Marked down from $379 -> $290 -> $150 Cdn (about $110 USD). Charger and two 2amp batteries. Almost bought the Husqvarna cordless last year but no $$ ;) The Echo will see light duty. small saplings, limbing...

    chainsaw ppe

My boots are also cut resistant above the steel toe. I understand it may not be uncommon for a chain to skip along the steel toe and onto the metatarsals and lower shin area, so cut resistance here would be very beneficial. ymmv

Hmmm... who wants to try this ?

not quite genius level but smart. wonder how much stress is on the axel lol

    chainsaw ppe

His reasoning was it would become loose I think. I also posted previously that this instructor also passed everyone on the course I was on. People who really needed way more time on their NIB saw. A twist of the wrist engages the brake every time saw is not throttled. Old habits yano. Good...

    chainsaw ppe

about the brake. The instructor on my course wasn't big fan of always flipping it over when not cutting (a habit I got into. chain not in wood, push it back with back of hand. every time). His reasoning was that all that pushing the brake back and forth could compromise its action when most...

Can Any Ontario Arborist Provide Guidance?

be very picky about courses. I was on a 2 day and everyone passed and got their ticket. I'm talking a few people who just picked up a saw for the first time in their lives and didn't look the most comfortable handling their brand new out of the box saws. instructor was good but how some people...

Advice on approach to removing hung tree

just wondering. is there any tension from the smaller tree that is also holding up the dropper ? that might affect where I start cutting and on which side I stand

    Almost died

you definitely dodged a bullet there as that vomiting etc is your body telling you it ain't ready for exertion. resist the urge to climb and let your body heal otherwise you could make things worse.

I found QuickClot @ retail finally

I understand the powdered clot is/was an absolute beeotch to remove and the gauze waaay easier to deal with in the er or trauma centre. Like others, I keep this in a simple first aid kit that's on me when cutting. that and the mobile phone

225 acre hardwood lot worth ?

can't tell, cow or bull ? That's a good freezer load right there and will be great through the long winter coming up. moose ribs, moose steaks, moose burgers, moose nose (yano it's a delicacy right ?)...smoke the hides....

225 acre hardwood lot worth ?

imho, I wouldn't let Maine dude come up BEFORE you had someone cruise your stand. You want to know exactly what you have, where it is and get some idea how easy it will be to log and remove. iow, will they tear up your land to get to it. The terrain around there is very slopey as is much of CBI...

225 acre hardwood lot worth ?

Ah, near Meat Cove, a place I've been wanting to visit since hearing friends talk about their camping trips there lol. If your trees are big, there's some seriously expensive dining room tables in that there curly. I'm typing on one as we speak ;) Hold tight to them until you find the right...

225 acre hardwood lot worth ?

If it's never been cut before, I'd be inclined to get a timber cruiser to take a walk through your land with you so you can understand what u have and the value of the woods. Would hate to see someone take advantage of you and you lose out on what could be a valuable commodity. whereabouts on...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

they're inexpensive enough to try out. the ones I got had three lengths (14"-18"). keep them in the saw powerbox nonetheless. will have to stick it on next time and see if they're all that haha

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Interesting, how does it work out overall ? I bought set of Quick Stix from Baileys years ago but have never used them. They attach to the Quick Stix bar nut (replaces original nut) which seems like a smart idea (leave them on while bucking etc). I actually prefer eyeballing and I can live with...
