I purchased a 288xp today from a friend. It's a low hour older model but it runs very strong. I'm a Stihl guy and don't know much about the husky saws. Is this a keeper? I am impressed with the performance with the original 24" b+c.
I have not posted here in a while but my firewood addiction is alive and well. No cutting this hot summer but I'm headed back to the wood lot soon, not much left to split here.
Here is my splitting area that has turned into a wood stacking area. I've only burned about 1.5 cords so far so the usual stacks that would be used up and refilled are full. There are about 3-4 cords of rounds under the tarps that still need to be split.
When you guys are plumbing your boilers you should consider some valves on each side of your circulator pumps. As a former heating tech I've only seen a few with shut off valves but I put them in my own home. Now I can swap out a bad unit without draining the entire system.
I thought I was done bringing home loads of wood but it was 62 here today so I packed up a few saws and my atv and hit my friends property for a nice load today. If the weather is good I'm headed back tomorrow.
Excaliber, I have a Mahindra dealer nearby and they build a nice tractor but the resale value is poor around here. I always consider this because you just never know what's going to happen down the road. There are JD dealers local as well but the models I looked at had aluminum differential...
Nice tractor. Check out the picture of my Kubota hood, the tractor was 2 hours old when a round fell out of the bucket and smashed the hood. Learn from my mistake!
Here is a pic of my homemade 3pt PTO winch. It is slow, no reverse, only free spool out but this thing can pull some wood. It's best to have a helper when the pull is subject to any snags because you need a person on the tractor to stop winching.
This is my splitting area, I'm at a point that I can't keep up with the loads I've been hauling home.Today I brought home a load and a second trip to get my atv and trailer. If the weather is good I may go back for more in a week or so.
Jimma, there is a place called RCS Diesel in Ludlow Ma. They will rebuild any Diesel engine you can think of. I have used them for some oddball engines that I could not even locate parts for.
I managed to get one trailer load out today. I normally cut enough for a second but I've got a sick dog at home. This oak has been down for 2+ years and is still heavy as hell.
I've been hauling home 3-4 trailer loads a week for the last few weeks. My barn and stacks are full! I'm going to start some new stacks and sell off a few cords.
It was a good week of scrounging for me, 3 trailer loads of oak, I got a firewood trailer from a scrapper and my neighbor gave me an old cider press for free!
I got back to the wood lot today for the first time in a few months. The cool morning air is good for lifting heavy rounds! I should be able to fill my trailer 3-4 times this week.
I've restocked the 9 cords I burned last winter. This is the first time in 10+ years I'm caught up on splitting/stacking. I'll be headed back to the wood lot soon to cut some more.
