    Building my second OWB

It has been awhile since I updated this, but to tell the truth I got busy at work and haven't worked on it since last December. But, with cold weather here and a bill from the propane company I am back at it. Another reason that I stopped was because I didn't have a good idea for the door. I...

    Building my second OWB

Anhydrous is very nasty and very dangerous, but at least not flammable. I vented it before I cut it and I didn't have any problem. The last one I built was out of a propane tank and I filled it completely full of water before cutting it. I work in the Ag sector and grew up on a farm so I had...

    Building my second OWB

I made sure that I used something thick for the stack so it could withstand creosote fires, and I am going to have a clean out. My last build had the stack set down in the box more and I had to keep and extra set of clothes I put on to feed the thing because I always got covered in smoke. The...

    Building my second OWB

I'm going to guess somewhere around 250 or so, it's hard to say.

    Building my second OWB

I was worried for a couple of reasons. That 1000 gallon tank was so long that I was afraid I would have to add a circulator to keep it all heated evenly. Second, I was worried that if I messed up and let it go out I would have that much more water to heat to get it back up to where I wanted it...

    Building my second OWB

It crossed my mind to leave it on wheels and just pull it over to the house in the winter, but the under carriage is going to become a log cart.

    Building my second OWB

I started by tracking down the tanks I would need to put the boiler together. I had a 250 gallon anhydrous tank that would be the fire box but I needed a larger tank to be the water jacket. I determined that the cheapest route would be to buy a 500 or 1000 gallon anhydrous tanks, so I watched...

running pumps in series on an owb

My taco pump is in the process of failing. It is not the 00 series with the replaceable cartridges and I have already changed the bearings once this year. It is equivalent to an 0013 but the only thing I could have by tomorrow was an 0011. This may be enough pump to work fine on my system but if...

How to repair a Taco 2400 pump

It is a ceramic seal. It wasn't leaking so I left it alone. I saw a seal kit on eBay or somewhere and I think it was like $50. I am sure that like the bearings though it could be picked up generically. I have had that seal out at least 5 times over the life of the pump and it doesn't leak yet...

How to repair a Taco 2400 pump

Then you use a drift to turn the lid a few degrees After that drive it upward and it will come out with the stator. Then use two pry bars to get the top cover off. Pull the top bearing out of the top cover. The just tap the bearing out of the top, use a punch to drive the...

How to repair a Taco 2400 pump

This all started when I found my 3 year old pump was locked up when it was time to fire up the wood burner. I took the top half off and got it spinning but I could tell by the noise it wasn't long for this world. It ran for 2 months then locked up. I pulled it apart and got numbers off the...

    Taco 2400 parts

Has anyone ever had to replace he bearings in their 2400? I had the upper bearing go out in mine and was wondering if they sold parts for these. I would also like to pick up another impeller for a spare.

Yes, ANOTHER OWB build thread... (Tank in tank style)

I had trouble with mine forcing too much heat out the stack as well. I like having a blower because it allows me to burn junk and unseasoned wood, so I wanted it working. I took a two pronged approach I got a dimmer pot to go on the fan and I installed a damper in the stack to hold it back. The...

Yes, ANOTHER OWB build thread... (Tank in tank style)

Wow, this is a way more detail focused build than mine was. I have been running a homemade tank in tank for going on 3 years now. I built mine in the middle of season after getting the first winter time electric bill at the house we had just bought (all electric heat), so I was in a big rush. It...

Flat plate heat exchanger domestic water

I have been thinking about this and it seems to me that with a large enough flat plate exchanger you could essentially have a tankless water heater. It would heat up enough on the way through that it could be used an would have no need to sit in the holding tank of the dw heater.

    Splitting/Chopping Tool Review Thread

I just bought a Fiskars with a black handle like @spike60 was talking about and it was marked discontinued by the manufacturer so I got the idea it was old stock.

    my OWB build

I really like your set up. I have a stove built to almost the same design except my two tanks were a little bigger and I ran my flue out the top. I wish I would have run across your build thread last year when i was designing mine because I might have changed my flue design to follow yours...

Fiskars X27 What a Piece of Plastic

And mass, and accuracy of the swing, and how long you can swing it if you need to go all day, and the head design, and the atmospheric pressure, and the moon phase. Once all the variables are entered in this math becomes a headache.

OK AIM, air under or over... let's hear it.

@AIM are you still using the wood burner that you posted pics of in your first post on here? I also have a owb made out of a 250 and a 500 gallon tank, but mine are laying flat. It looks like you have been running yours for a few years now and I wondered if you had made any tweaks to it, mine...
