Premium Firewood:How Much Extra Work is it Worth?

Also depends on which birch, if it's black birch handy it's as good as oak for me.

The Official, 2nd. Annual Pennsylvania Spring GTG (May 9, 2015)

My only complaint about the day was that my gut ran out of room before I got to eat everything that I wanted. I really intended to get some venison chili but after the ribs and pork and all that appeared on my first plate I just couldn't do it. Thanks to all!

I finally got some of the little hydraulic cylinders, they're cute, I'll bring 3, 2 were spoken for and one for the raffle table.

With all this big saw talk I hate to ask but does anyone have a MS241 I could try? As this old worn out man ages I use my 261 a lot more than my 044 and some days an even lighter saw would be nice.

Stihl 291 is no longer FARM BOSS

My Farm Boss is an 041 Stihl! I believe I bought it in the late 70s, still runs. I guess the farms keep getting smaller.

6" is long enough for the lift but I don't have them yet and I'm going by what I was told. When he asked if I wanted them I asked if they would be available by May 9th and he said they should be so we will see. Until I have them in hand size is approximate and quantity is ???

A buddy that works on hydraulics asked if I wanted some little (2"D. X 6"stroke) cylinders that are going to be tossed, said they are good. Any one need one to build a lift for your splitter?

    Shutting down the OWB?

I run the pumps once or twice through the summer just for a few minutes. If you filled it with water already don't let it set all summer without getting it hot first, the water needs to get up to over 140 or so to get the oxygen cooked off or it will be more corrosive.

Starting a fire. Tips and tricks

I live on a farm and have a conventional OWB, I have one of the plastic coffee cans and in the fall I fill it with corn cobs standing on end (usually need to break them shorter) and then I pour about 2" of diesel on them, pick some smaller pieces from the wood pile and stack some under and some...

Dirty Hand Tools vs CountyLine 22 ton splitters

Menards looks like a neat store BUT they don't exist in SE PA so where else is a good place to get the DHT splitters.

The Official, 2nd. Annual Pennsylvania Spring GTG (May 9, 2015)

I retired in Aug 2011 with over 26 years, add in 4 years of Navy to get the 30 I needed. Started as a machinist then engineering technician finally Chief of Experimental Fabrication. Great job but retired is better, biggest decision yesterday was should I cut firewood or get the boat and trailer...

    NEW JONSERED 2260...................................

I have all Stihl saws and like them BUT a tractor repair shop less than 2 miles from me started selling J-reds and that got me thinking. The nearest Stihl or Husky dealers are 20 miles although honestly I hardly ever need dealer.

How do you cut a tree up?

Ambull01, where on the Eastern Shore are you? I just got a place near Fenwick, DE last year and I'm trying to learn where to fish and hunt.

How do you cut a tree up?

A cant hook IS for rolling logs. A pickaroon is a handle with a curved pointy thing on the end for reaching out and grabbing things, totally different.

River birch and sycamore for firewood

I never heard of "river" birch around here but if it's the same as black birch it's great. I also hear it called sweet birch and cherry birch. If cut now up here where it's freezing the moisture content is relatively low but it goes up quick in the spring. I plan on dropping several in the next...
