lets c your firewood storage shed

8' wide 36' long. Cement floor. I hang a tarp on the far side in the winter to keep the snow out. The kindling wood is on the far right. Mostly red oak with a little white oak mixed in.

    MS250

It's a great saw. A few years back my step son brought me his fairly new 250 to use for the season. He knew I was thinking about stepping up from my homelines. I had a great summer cutting with the 250 and in the fall my wife and I went to the saw shop to buy one. The salesman talked me into a...

How Much Wood Have You used

Almost a cord. Been warm this year but cold enough for a fire every day.

Would you loan your woodsplitter to your neighbor?

Absolutely not. We have a local rental outfit for just that purpose.

    Non-ethanol gas a necessity?

Every motor smaller than my truck gets non ethanol gas. It's well worth the cost. Ethanol is evil.

How many of you wear eye protection ?

Always, but it took me quite a few years to get there. And quite a few incidents of stuff in my eyes.

    Snow and wood cutting

That stuff is tough to walk in Colson. I hear you. Here the snow is dry and fluffy, it won't pack at all. Easy to walk in but tough to drive through.

How many years ahead should you be with firewood?

I cut dead red oak and keep it all dry in the shed so I keep about a half year to one year ahead. I cut my wife's aunt's wood too and keep her two years ahead, one in the shed and one outside under a tarp. I do all the wood in the summer.

    Snow and wood cutting

People tell me I am plain crazy to cut all my wood in July-August when it's hot. But I can sit and look out the window all winter.

How's your wood pile holding out?

I burn about 10 cord and have about 15 left in the shed. We started burning early this year and it's been nasty cold. I heard they are rationing propane and charging about $1.86 / gal.

A little maintenance on a blustery day

I bought one of those new fangled Homelites brand new. That saw was directly responsible for my buying two brand new Stihls. :hmm3grin2orange:

    Chains won't cut anymore

No problem Philbert. I didn't take it the wrong way. I was just wondering what could cause that symptom.

    OK. Thanks Philbert.

    Chains won't cut anymore

I'm a newby too, here to learn. But could this be caused by the grinding wheel having a worn in ridge which is grinding that bevel on the top of the cutter? That might explain the change from when it worked fine. Maybe dress the wheel?

    New Saw

Thanks everybody. I took it out back yesterday and got it a bit dirty. It is a wood cutter. It actually seemed pretty happy in the oak woods. I think we're going to get along well. Almost no vibration, unlike the 041. Now if I could get rid of the 2 feet of snow in the woods, I could start...
