Introducing Brand New Wood Furnace to Market - The Drolet Tundra!

I believe it controls blower speed based on plenum temperature. Same as the circuit board in the Max caddy.

Introducing Brand New Wood Furnace to Market - The Drolet Tundra!

Someone should tell SBI right away that it is going to probably have the same cracking issues because they didn't put firebrick in the front again.

Now that was an old oak...

I want to see the picture, but it won't show up for me.

    Do you burn coal?

I burned some anthracite last winter. It was nut coal. A little pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Long burn times. Steady heat the whole time. I really like it. My next furnace will be a stoker. I'm thinking leisure line ak110 I can get rice coal for $130 a ton a couple hours drive from me.

    Filling your own oil tank

Is there any other oil companies you could go with?

    fall's first fire.

I haven't fired mine up yet. The last few nights I let the LP kick on. I bought LP at $.99 a gallon so I'm not too worried about it.

    Filling your own oil tank

About 8 or so years ago I used to fill my own tank. The oil company wanted a minimum fill and we were really strapped for cash that winter so we filled 8 yellow 5 gallon cans full every now and than and that got us through.

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

Only magic here is when I crack open a beer.

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

Of course not because I know how to run it properly. If I was using wet wood, letting my draft get out of hand, and keeping my pipe temp too low than I would be using twice the wood and causing a chimney fire. And as laynes69 suggest that if your furnace is oversized, you may be forced to...

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

The trick to using less wood is to make sure your wood is nice and dry. A person can use half their wood energy just trying to boil the water out of it. People who are using an excessive amount of wood are either burning wet wood or their chimney draft isn't right and they are sending all the...

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

I'd rather be warm on those frigid nights. Plus I'm going to use pretty much straight coal next winter.

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

I like the Shelter better. The Tundra was a good furnace, but it took me months to figure it out. The Tundra is really picky with wood. I really liked being able to watch the fire through the glass door, probably a little too much. Many nights I'd just sit and watch it with a cold one. The...

    Shelter SF2631 Wood Coal Furnace

Hello all. I wanted to post a little about this furnace because when I was looking for reviews on it I couldn't find anything about it. Previously I was using a Drolet Tundra which had some cracking issues and SBI was kind enough to give me instore credit so I decided to buy the Shelter furnace...

Introducing Brand New Wood Furnace to Market - The Drolet Tundra!

I got a reply back from SBI. These crazy @ss people want me to return the furnace to Menards and they will ship a replacement there for me. I'm not pulling it out. They can send someone to my house to replace it.

Introducing Brand New Wood Furnace to Market - The Drolet Tundra!

I honestly don't even want to think about having to install a new one. Just trying to get that thing in my basement was one of the worst things I've ever had to do. Heavier than hell even with 3 people and a dolly I still managed to break my basement stairs because of the weight and I had to...

The cracks are actually in the Firebox frame and not the door.

I agree. I'm sure they need to investigate. I just sent them what they asked for. I'll post again when I hear more.

Introducing Brand New Wood Furnace to Market - The Drolet Tundra!

This is the response I've received so far. In order to have a thorough case file, we will require some additional information. A copy of the proof of purchase. The dimensions of your residence, a description of your chimney (length and diameter) and the ducting. We will also require photos of...
