    Is ethanol really that bad?

If you want to see goo, tan sand, rust and other crud from ethanol just come south. Hot temps and humidity will set ethanol off. Here is a little fact, Federal regulations state that no ethanol mixed fuel can be stored in any fuel distrubition tank/fuel dealer. Ethanol can only be added/mixed...

How many new spark plugs do you have?

Have 4 or 5 new spare plugs, they are 10yrs old. One known good plug on the bench just as a test device. In gas motors there is an oil bypass for the filter in the event of a clog/failure that allows oil the flow protecting the motor. In racing motors we plugged the bypass and used Delco...

Homelite 330. broken ingition ground wire

You need multistrand wire. Wire with lots of little stands in it. It is used in DC wiring, welding lead, marine wire etc. Marine wire is a good choice, very flexable and good insulation. Most good marine wire is tinned copper for corrosion resistance.

Must have special tools for saw repair.

Hammers Gotta have lots of hammers. Small ones, big ones, soft ones, flat ones, pointy ones. You know a good selection, 27 or so. That horse rasp is also good for shaping replacement hammer handles.

Stihl 017 - Which Replacement Carb

Good information on the 215 changeover, thanks for that. Seen a couple of 017s with weak/intermittant spark. They run for a few minutes then the light goes out. I have one on the shop floor somewhere that needs a firestarter myself. Too easy to grab a good 024 off the shelf than worry about...

    Stihl 024 AV

One of my 024s does this. Just slide it down till it starts to bind/get offline then wiggle it. it will drop on down. Make sure the locking knob is in the right position. Once you get it to slide on a time or 2 it will become second nature.

    Poulan 5200 Filter Fix

It is Inner Facing. Used as an inner liner for fabric to give it more body/stiffness in shirts/blouses where the buttons/holes are and collars. Just ask for it in a cloth shop, they should have a few types. Find one that flows like you want. Most of it is nylon, polyester, synthetic material...

    Do you know that guy?

What i have recieved here for free is honesty in buying a saw. When people like Fin460 sold me a saw saying it was used for 10 tanks of fuel it arrives looking like it only had 2 run thru it. Everything has been exactly as described or better. Can't put a price on that. Option #2 We are...

    2IL Peavey

Take a dry tight fitting hardwood dowel and press it into the handle. Then put a little linseed oil, diesel fuel and used motor oil, etc to swell the wood a little. The handle will not bend as easy. Nice use of scrap!!!

    Idiot's guide to sharpening chains?

Before any chain work get good lighting and if needed some reading glasses. A good optivisor is great for seeing the details of the cutter. Get a good look at a new cutter then yours to see the difference. Try a file with a guide, Granburg, etc. Easier to see what the file is doing. Take a...

Best Way to De Gunk an old chainsaw?

Nice cleanup! Any cleaner/water works much better hot. I take a few things to work, Drycleaner and use the steam gun on them. It is used for getting spots out of fabric so it is safe for a saw. Very little water, no chemicals, and pinpoint application. Just stay away from carb and exhaust...
