    24" 550xp or 261cm?

Forester makes a small mount 24" bar. I have one on my 555 (with skip chain) and this saw/chain combo works great when going after old knotty Az hardwood. I considered the 550XP but the 555 seemed like a better fit for the knotty deadwood I run into. The lower vibe rating of the 555 makes it...

    Best Husqvarna 555 price?

Check out Pantano Power Equipment (google the name). I recently purchased a 555 with 24" bar from them and was VERY pleased with their price and service. Regardless of where you buy the saw I'd also recommend purchasing the Husky fuel to get the extra warranty coverage. BTW, my Triple Nickel...

    24" 550xp or 261cm?

Sounds like you might be using this saw almost like a "limbing saw"! If that's the case then the long bar does sort of make sense. I suspect the main thrust of the negative comments (about a 24" bar) was the assumption that you would be using a 50cc saw "buried". That would generally be...

    24" 550xp or 261cm?

    After owning/using a 261 I'd stick with the 550xp (preferably with a 20" or shorter bar). JMO

Removed and plugged. FWIW, if I kept the saw I wouldn't bother putting a decompression valve on the saw.

    Sold Husqvarna 261

Greetings Looking to sell (or trade) a recently acquired Husqvarna 261. Purchased this recently from another forum member but decided I really want an auto-tune saw. The bar and chain are new (never used) but note that the bar is a K041 mount. Oils and adjusts fine. The saw starts right up...

I'm not a Stihl chain expert, so help, Please

Nice catch: That second pic makes it look like this chain was run the wrong way.

    Worth it? Ms660

What happened when he revved it up with the brake on??? How long did he rev it? I'm pretty sure doing that will grenade the brake or clutch if done for a long enough time. Congrats on the nice saw! JohnG

    Questions about chain selection

Thanks for this info. I think I'll try one of these 72AP chains and also a full comp.

    Questions about chain selection

Most of the wood we have around here (North-central Az) is old/hard/knotty/dirty so I don't think 'full chisel' is the way to go. Unfortunately, the only skip and half-skip chain I've found is of the 'full chisel' variety. Hence, my conundrum. I suppose I could try a full comp...

    Questions about chain selection

Thanks for your reply! Are you running full-comp or semi/full skip??? I've only used full-comp semi-chisel on my 18" bar but with this new saw and 24" bar I just don't know. ??? JohnG

    Questions about chain selection

Greetings again from a newish member I'm going to setup my newly acquired Husq 261 (likely converted to a 262 shortly) with a 20" and 24" bar for the larger trees in my North-central Az area. The trees I'll be cutting with that combo are usually old dead (hard) Junipers and Pinion pine of <30"...
