Anyone transported a chainsaw in commercial checked baggage?

Several years ago my brother checked an MS390 on a flight from Portland to Indy. No problem whatsoever. International may be different.

What saw would you grab right now.....

Well folks, I saw this post again and I have to admit that although I love my MS260, I am now 59 years old and I no longer heat with firewood (for now anyway...new home) so I find myself usually grabbing my new (to me) Echo 271T to cut small stuff around the place or to cut trees off the...

    Stihl 021 quits

The last time I had a saw behave like this I replaced the spark plug. Turns out that my plug had developed a crack in the porcelain that would not gap open until the plug warmed up and expanded. When this happened the spark would short circuit trough the crack gap and kill the saw. After a...

why do poulans require SO MANY F#$@&NG pulls

I’ve had several folks complain to me about not being able to started their 026 or MS260. I tell them, “press down hard on the kill switch in the choke position as you pull the rope!”. With very few exceptions the saw fires on the first pull! Those saws have the air filter choke flap set-up...

Don't want a new saw. Stihl Problem

If you're worried about that clutch/sprocket needle bearing, unlock your chain brake, remove the spark plug, and crank the engine. If that needle bearing is binding up then your chain will run on the bar when you crank the engine.

Don't want a new saw. Stihl Problem

Has the pull rope ever broken? If so, did you replace it with a shorter rope? Short ropes are harder to pull.

Just how much quicker does full chisel dull in dirty wood?!

When I go to the woods to cut firewood I don't have time to burn daylight sharpening chains. So I always take several sharp chains with me. I prefer full chisel because I have found that, for me, they cut enough faster to be worth the extra effort required to keep them sharp while cutting. I...

    Tree firewood species identification

Here where I live those tulip poplars will, in addition to that green center, have an occasional strip of deep purple in the wood that is absolutely beautiful when freshly sawn on a sawmill. Sad part is that as the wood dries the purple turns brown and disappears!

    "You Suck" Thread 2021"--Pics required!

A buddy of mine gave me a Husky 141 the other day. He told me the gas cap is too difficult to remove and the fuel tank leaks. Although I have not yet cracked it open, I am betting he ran ethanol fuel in it and it has a broken fuel line. Not a high dollar saw but still a nice score in my book.

Issues with too high pop off pressure

Very interesting thread! These discussions make me think! So let me see if I understand this correctly. Saw running WOT...release throttle trigger....engine coasts down with throttle butterfly shut (which creates high vacuum in the crank case). This vacuum reduces the impulse (no air = no...

    Stihl 024AV Trouble

Did you try pouring a dribble of gas down the carb throat to see if it will fire? That series of saws had a big problem with air leaking past the choke flap on air filter. If it starts up and runs good with a few drops of gas in the carb then I would recommend taking a good look at (or just...

    Stihl 031 AV

Next time it has no spark you might try putting it in an oven at about 120F for 15-30 minutes and then try it again. May be a humidity/moisture problem combined with old wiring insulation.

    Stihl MS291 Strange Problem

Last 290 I worked on sounded like a cement mixer and when I got it apart the crank shaft was cracked near the rod. Had eaten up some of the castings where the counterweights were hitting due to the crank flexing and wobbling from the crack. Customer got a 390 sleeper out of the ordeal! :)

    Stihl 041 Starting Issue

Several years ago a guy brought me an 041 that would not fire. Had what appeared to be good spark. After getting some feedback from this site I bought and installed a new condenser. Spark immediately was brighter and stronger than before. Installed the plug, pulled the rope. Saw fired up...

Stihl ms181 pressure in tank and vent

2 questions: 1) when you say you are removing the fuel cap....are you putting it back on before you start pulling the carb/lines off? 2) If you are removing the cap completely is there still fuel in the tank? I ask because the last time someone had this problem and asked me about it...

    3 saws

Aaaaannnnnnd..........another 036!!!! Mine looks like the lower three......well almost.... Mine is dinged up, crusty, and ugly. Those are some REALLY nice looking units! Thanks for letting us see them! Mine can look pretty close to these if I put some effort and a few bucks into it. It...

    3 saws

My current 3-saw plan.... 018 w/14" bar 3/8LP .050 semi chisel MS260 w/18" .325, .063, Full Chisel 066 Mag. w/28" 3/8, .063 Full Chisel Full Comp. I always take the 018 and 260 to the woods with me. I'll take the 066 too if I have some big stuff to cut (18" dia +). As soon as I finish...

Stihl 250 takes 4 turns out new carb or old carb , WHY ?

Pressure/Vac test needed for sure. Gotta be leaking air somewhere. Last one of these I wrenched on had loose pan bolts and was leaking air around the pan and seals (outsides of seals...not at the crank).....oh....and the piston was toast as a result.
