    Plasma Cutters

I'm looking to buy a plasma cutter. I've a fair bit of research to do yet, but am wondering about price. Good reviews for a <$200 cutter vs $1000s. Top end cutters is out of the question for me, but just how much to spend to get a good cutting machine that will last for years is the question...

Welded a fix to the Dump Cart

Lower hitch pin mount broke away in my hand this morning, as I was trying to bend it back into place. Once everything was set up, took about 2 minutes. Like magic. Wow! A new cart was out of the question, and a used cart on Craigslist goes for around $200. To find someone to weld this and...

Cutting wood with the neighbor yesterday

He was cutting severly crooked and decided to change out the chain with a new one. It was too long for his 20' bar. I counted the drivers -- 80 drivers. My 20' bar takes 72 drivers and my 24' bar takes 84 drivers. 80? He gave me the chain even though I volunteered to cut the chain and make...

I had the stove pipe cleaned

I had this done after a couple of years of zero problems. Neighbors had theirs done, and since the guy was here I had him do mine. 20' to 25' of pipe and a quart of light fluffy soot was all that came out. 👍 A month or more ago, I took a stick and lightly tapped out length of the pipe and...

    Waiting on Stihl Parts, WTF?

I've never had to order parts for a saw, sans bar, chain, filter, etc. Until recently. The 500i is down as the chain tensioning mechanism is busted up. I put it on order 3 weeks ago, and still no part, and still no guidance to when it might be in stock. Is this common? Feels like this is...

Another tool to help with firewood. High Lift Jack

10% off, free delivery, met my requirements and with good reviews. Will be nice to have when attempting to get a large log out of a tricky spot. Along with my 5 ton come-a-long this should work out well for my needs. Many other uses as well. I'll assess the quality when it shows up...

    Fudge!!! Bee sting

Yellow Jackets made a home inside a logs hollow. Didn't notice til I split the wood. Damn bee stung me thru my gloves. Not a big deal, right? Woke up at midnight and my hand looks like a boxing glove and the swelling is 1/2 way to the elbow. Double Fudge!!! Looks like a day of catching up...

    International Cub Cadet 123

I'm considering this for $300. Don't know much about it, or even if it runs. A project for fun. Complete restoration. Opinions? Tis this a money pit, or a valued vintage yard tractor worthy of a restoration?

    It was ready

After 20 years it was ready for some maintenance. After 20 years, it got an oil change and the air filter got blown out. My 10hp Troy-Bilt 5500W electric generator finally got some attention. No real reason, as I only use it an hour or 2 a year. Electricity is pretty reliable here, and when...

    Should this sprocket be replaced

    Or maybe repaired. LOL

    Logging Chains

These have been in my Amazon cart for at least 4 years, waiting on a price drop. Once in the $80, then shot up and stayed up for years at $120+ I got them, finally... Hours later they are now at $106. Looks like they dropped the price just for me....

    Tree falls on house

We had a freak storm came thru yesterday, and a micro-burst of wind from an unusual direction toppled the pine on top of this house. This morning the owner and 4 neighbors came together and pulled the tree off the roof. Tractor, cable, snatch block and my Toyota pulled the tree off the house...

    Elk Steaks

Neighbor got the call this morning from the Sheriff. We gathered up some others and processed what looked good. I got a backstrap and a quarter. The one backstrap yeilded 20 steaks, and the quarter I'll grind into burgers. Lots of work but the meat looks incredible. The scraps I'll...

    Not CAD, but LAD

3 chainsaws is enough. Plenty enough for a single homes firewood needs, and actually two would be plenty, but the 500i was just to shiny to pass up with the Covid money that arrived -- Thanks Donald. But Lighter Addiction Disorder has taken hold. Lucky me they are very inexpensive...

Chuck Norris is such a badass

I would have said that this is IMPOSSIBLE, but there is Chuck Norris who defies all conventional beliefs CN stops a chain saw with his bare hands by grabbing the chain.

My 3 chainsaws with old fuel?

Old gas? What was in the saws and in the premix gas can was "old" fuel from Oct. 6 months, and all three saws started right up no problems. So much for gas going bad after a few weeks or months. The 261, 400c, and the 500i are ready for work. Most of the snow is melted at my home, but the...

    Welding Blankets

Thoughts on welding blankets as extra protection for walls near the wood stove. Sometimes my walls logs can get to 120+ when the stove is really cranking. Not to concerned with the walls catching fire, but maybe aging faster then the rest. IDK. I'm thinking of a fire resistant/proof welding...

    Plant Based Jerky

Really??? 3.5 ounces for $2 is very inexpensive for Jerky. Normally $3+ for one ounce of beef jerky. I’ll give this a try. Wow! Incredible flavor, and if I didn’t know better I would have thought it was meat. Same texture and bite feel. I found this in the bargain cart near the meat...

    First Chainsaw Hanger

Got this off Etsy. Seller is CCCCrafters. Is nicely made, inexpensive and just for the chainsaw. Only thing -- I'm not 100% positive it will hold over time. Hence the rope thru the handle. If it holds, then I'll get 2 more, but first I'm going to see how well I can weld up some hangers with...

    Bacon Flavored Almonds

I thought of this and gave it a try. Very very good. Sprinkled some garlic powder on it before it dried for a good bind. I was still able to save some of the grease, and the bacon was used in my pasta meal. Lots of good use out of this idea.
