    What made these holes?

Sapsuckers. Usually that pattern is because some beetle larva move in that pattern eating the cambium layer as they mature. One attack will not be enough to girdle the tree and kill it. It is a series of stagard hits above and below that cuts of the cambium layer (food passage of the tree) The...

Preparing to fell dead pine tree

Looks like it's "standing dry". Under the Danger tree assessors courses I have had in BC for many past years then that would be in the latter stages of a class 4 conifer. I would suspect the tree to start shedding the main branches soon. Bark looks heeled over on the edges? Is the remaining bark...

    Estimating log weight.

Tried the calculator with Eastern white pine. It wouldn't take the log length decimal though. No problem, just ran it as 85 ft and threw in a decimal. 667.1 lbs I am at 660 and took an educated guess on wood weight.

    Estimating log weight.

33lb to 35 at best per sq ft. Quick math on a short log is add 22 + 17. (as did the poster above) and divide by 2. He rounded up to 20" for easy maths. 20" x 20" = 400 sq in. knock off 20% for curvature. (actually is 21.5%) 320 sq in. 102 in long. ------------------------- (1728 cu in to cu...

Why is that depressing? What is depressing is that you seen to have such a poor understanding of dyslexia. It is 20 23. I had a teacher in grade 3 that understood in the early '70s. Odd question... Where do loggers use the bathroom?

That's perfect they did that and good for you. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine asked the girl next to her in the stall which happened to be Jerry's new GF (Unbeknownst to each other at the time.) The infamous episode off "can you at least spare a square..sorry..I can't spare a...

Odd question... Where do loggers use the bathroom?

I'm glad I paid all the attention in not 'wearing wood' compared to my lack of concentration when it came to putting G & O caps on as well as putting the right one in the right tank. Slow learner when it came to not pooped on my suspernder. Funny when you have no shìt tickets or we also call...

Odd question... Where do loggers use the bathroom?

Dyslexics like me say "also" instead, when I can't remember the difference between either to or too. This is if I question myself. Many times I don't think about it and get it wrong or confident that I'm right.

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

I fully agree with last statement. I suppose if a certain tree is light enough then it could possibly spring back of its wide crown. Maybe a big oak with massive crown.Normally it would just break. Fell thousand of black cotton that live west of the Rockies and thousands of the smaller species...

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

True, you rip a log and it's. no longer worth half You quarter it and it not worth half of the half. And then slabs are worth less per volume.

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

He is right. An object will remain in forward motion unless it comes in contact with a solid object. It is Newton's first law of motion. So you are saying the same thing. Hitting a slop or a slight 'spike' on flat ground have never done that in my experience. Up hill is different. The...

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

That's not an answer. "It depends" I am aware of that. You flirt with the idea that you want to discuss but you haven't bought anything to the table. Can you give us some examples please and then I will gladly add to the conversation. Gather all your knowledge from all your experts that you have...

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

Jer, seems like a nice guy, have some mutual friends. Donny Walker I have known since first day of grade 8. (42 yrs ago). He ports his saws. Jer's 572 seems like ****. He is a lazy filler/sharpener. Runs stock chain out of the box. Makes vid all day and makes a mockery out of our profession...

    Humboldt vs. Conventional

Who told you he is respected by all? If a guy is a good Faller I will say it? People want to have reality shows or be YouTube's, and you either end up a hero or a zero. I know which end they end up on. Sorry If the truth hurts you feelers? Question? Or do you want to keep running off? Not...
