Some questions about fine tuning my chainsaw

I was hoping I could get some tips with regards to tuning / diagnosing a Stihl 031av I have ( I realise its difficult to do without having the saw in front of you). Chainsaw has new everything except crank seals / cylinder (new rings), has electronic chip conversion with manually adjusting...

    Stihl 031 oil pump interchangeability

Hi Would anyone know whether an 038 oil pump would fit an 031? They look identical in pictures and share the same gasket but that doesn't mean they would interchange. The reason I ask is that I can get an 038 oil pump off ebay easy enough whereas 031 oil pumps are going to be second hand only...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Thanks vinny...I'll pull it down and hopefully as you say, I just have the metering too high and pouring in fuel.

It's running way too rich yeah? It's got oil leaking out the sparkplug hole (just hand tightened) and muffler

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Gents First start of the McCulloch 7-10A today (well first start with fuel in the tank)...yes I put the sticker on upside down.....the carb has a small gasket leak of fuel, the fuel cap leaks but she runs.... The carb (SDC 61 I believe) only has one adjuster for low speed, it has been rebuilt...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Here you go Little Jerry. Like I said looks to be barely touching it. Thanks mate, I must have a different carby - I think its an SDC 61 or something like that..It's screwed pretty much all the way in and I think barely touching the throttle arm. Still waiting on a new tank gasket and sealing...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Hi Mogulmasher Can you show me how that idle adjuster screw sits against your carb? My 7-10A screw even when screwed right in seems to barely touch the lever on the carby - I haven't had it fully running yet (waiting on fuel tank gasket) so I cannot say for sure that it does nothing but it...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Thanks mate...the hole is so small on the impulse port, its hard to know 100% whether its lined up properly....i'll get the carb leak sorted, wait for the cork gasket / new fuel line to arrive and then i'll see if she runs properly...getting closer to having it done, it's frustrating but that's...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Thanks for the input...it's only running with fuel down the throat and only runs for a few seconds so definitely not going to hurt it - but it does rev up and idle....just got to get it pulling fuel from the tank...I had rebuilt the carb but I'll take another look, luckily kits are cheap. Is...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Well one problem solved, I realised I had the bloody choke on (I should stick to my day job), no wonder it stalled when I pulled the throttle...I got it to rev when putting fuel down the carb which is good...I still have the leak but it looks like it was from that fuel tank cork gasket weeping...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Looking at the carb a little closer it seems to have a 61 stamped on it so it may not be the 58 that I first thought. I did a pressure test on the SDC carb and it failed, had a slow leak and bubbles were coming out of the bottom left hole in this pic...does that mean anything in particular that...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Gents Trying to get this 7-10A I restored a while back fired up (had it mounted on the wall while I waited for parts and just left it there) and had a couple of questions I was hoping you could help with: 1) I installed a replacement fuel line (not installed in picture) but it seems too long...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

I restored the middle two saws, the top and bottom saws I just replaced parts but didn't do any powdercoat etc. I'll share with you the little I do know but remember this is coming from the guy who put the McCulloch 7-10 decal on upside down - so use my advise with discretion. Remember the...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Gents Probably my last post here as the McCulloch 7-10 is basically finished and my time restoring saws and learning to powder coat is done for now as I switch back to my main passion - Ford F-truck restoration. Appreciate all the help you guys gave me and the patience to endure the same old...

Anyone familiar with old echo saws

Brand new, but I'm using a spark strength tester tool that goes between the boot and grounded to the cylinder

First thing I did as I have made that mistake before :)....I also disconnected the killswitch to further isolate things

Anyone familiar with old echo saws

Hi If anyone has an Echo VL chainsaw with the coil under the flywheel hoping you could help me out. The coil seems to have only one wire coming out to the condensor which leads me to believe the coil is grounded by the fact its bolted to the cylinder? Do you know if that is correct? I have a...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Thanks for posting that maintenance supervisor...I will have a lot more options now locally which is making my wallet a little happier. I'm just starting to look it up - is KO95 another Husky mount or something different as looking up bar mounts on ebay is less fruitful than particular saw models

    McCulloch Chain Saws

8mm.... Getting charged import charges on international orders now which just adds insult to injury with the low value Aussie dollar.... Anyone got an Archer bar on a McCulloch that can post a picture...I really wanted the black bar with yellow McCulloch writing (even bought the stencil that...
