Protips on getting track back on Ditch Witch SK600? (Same tensioner as SK650)

Prevention - listen for the sound and feel of the track coming off. You can also buy new tracks, which are tighter, or tighten the current tracks. When it comes off, I tilt the unit until it is 3" off the ground. I usually use a rope on the raised arm with a bumper pull. Sometimes I use a...

Granberg EZ rails leveling rods unscrewing mid-slab - what should I do?

Just found this post on arbtalk: https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/43503-alaskan-9-ez-first-cut-rails/ User Rob D says "They need to be under tension or otherwise they will vibrate lose." He suggests using the unused holes to screw in a screw to maintain tension. I'm wondering if the dogs...

Granberg EZ rails leveling rods unscrewing mid-slab - what should I do?

Hi folks, I'm fairly new to csm. Went after this 15" hickory today: My first cut was not completely level, so I put the rails back on to get it the rest of the way level. It's my first time using the EZ rails. Half way through my cut, I looked at the EZ rail and noticed that one of...

X2 on 1/4" sprocket, but can they do that since they don't sell that chain? Is there an aftermarket sprocket?

    What to start with

Hey, I need 2 ms661 saws (primary and backup, canopy and stump cut) for crane climbing, and I also need to mill bigger wood (~45" diameter burl oak trunk). Any recommendations for a double ms661 powerhead setup? Is the bar length doubled to 64"? And where can I buy lots of hardwood ripping...

How should I approach the rot in this fresh slab?

Mkay... Thanks for voting! Yeah, borax is a surface treatment that will not penetrate into the punky area. Can't remember if boracare also has antifreeze in it... I'll look into the powder post beetle issue. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Nice to get a response, was feeling the empty space, lol. :)

How should I approach the rot in this fresh slab?

Hi guys, had to jump on this 30" hickory log sooner than I was ready to. It's got a great fungal line in solid wood, but also some punky wood off on the bottom right corner, as well as 3" width of slightly punky wood in the mid-right area. What should I do? Vote, and/or comment!

CSM Vibration issues with bar clamp and, well, everything...

@BobL Got it, with one exception. I think the log will roll off if I sticker between it and the supports. I left the rounded bottom slab in place because it fits in the grooves of the supports. The middle support is shimmed for levelling. Does this change anything you said?

Really appreciate it @BobL . I'll read everything you suggested here. I've been through the milling 101 thread (and *many* other CSM threads) but it's a lot to remember. Appreciate you pointing me to the post number. Aight, thanks everyone, I'll be in touch with an update. Even though I'm...

Why ddrt over srt for beginners?

Tradition is the main reason, imho. There is the real concern of a newb climbing over their TIP and falling off the back side. I am going to have to learn MRS/MRT/ddrt shortly because I have to do some crane work and no one has discovered a good way to ride the ball SRT. I've been climbing...

CSM Vibration issues with bar clamp and, well, everything...

You might chuckle at this: I received two ms250c powerheads from an old friend. I'm an arborist developing a company with little money. The powerheads did not perform at professional standard, so I thought I'd burn them up milling. I ordered a double-ended granberg bar, which didn't match...

CSM Vibration issues with bar clamp and, well, everything...

That seems sensible. I'm going to file my rakers. I don't have a depth gauge and they're surprisingly hard to find, locally. It's possible that I'm sharpening/grinding incorrectly in other ways. To be honest, I'm just getting on the "proper sharpening" bandwagon after 4 years of this and...

CSM Vibration issues with bar clamp and, well, everything...

I don't know. I used the hammer drill on hammer setting. Made it go click-click, y'know... Is it possible to overtighten a bar clamp? I cant imagine tightening it more. My hands got beat up by the drill and I even had the accessory handle on the drill to stabilize it... Also, I checked...

CSM Vibration issues with bar clamp and, well, everything...

Hi folks, I'm milling for the first time. 18" cypress with an ms661 in a 36" Granberg. The vibrations are sending bits and pieces flying all the time, and my worst issue is that the bar clamp next to the powerhead is allowing the bar to slip back into the chain. I'm combating all this with...

CSM slab preservative treatment, outdoor storage

Hi folks. I'm new to csm. I live in Florida. I'll be milling 8-14" cypress next week, and possibly some swamp tupelo. I also have semi-cured black cherry logs (1.5 years), 8 month-old red oak logs, 2 whole 26" pines (slash and loblolly) to mill for pole barn beams, and a 25' curved red oak...
