50 Foot Oak tree lifting driveway

I have to ask. What is the purpose of that driveway? I don't see any garage to pull into, just a circular drive. Could you just eliminate the circular drive and have two straight pull in spaces? Second, are you sure the tree roots are the problem? It seems odd that the roots would lift the...

Lack of Power with Stihl MS200T

I am finally back in business, (almost). The saw is running great and the dealer did take care of me on the billing. I got it home and as I was checking it out and sawing up some hickory the anti-vibration mount separated. I got a new one on order. But it is good to have the saw back I...

Lack of Power with Stihl MS200T

Tried the saw out today, same symptoms. Took it back to the shop, not a happy camper. You called it lone wolf, scored piston. Wish you were closer I would bring it to you. I think I was most upset that I was assured they fully checked it out. When I took it in today they tried to tweak...

Lack of Power with Stihl MS200T

I took my saw in to a different saw shop. I wanted to get a fresh set of eyes on it. After a long wait I finally got it back yesterday. They started by replacing the filter and an oil line. Apparently, that didn't fix it. They then replace the carburetor. They said they ran it and it is...

I hope for once you are wrong Lone Wolf, but I will let you know what I find out. I really like this saw and hope this isn't the death knell for it. Doug in SW IA

Lack of Power with Stihl MS200T

The shop I took it to said the compression was good. I did put the jets back to factory settings and it didn't help. I had it warmed up and tried tweaking the high speed jet and couldn't see any real improvement. I looked in the tank and it is clean. I pulled the filter up and it also is...

Lack of Power with Stihl MS200T

I bought this saw new and have put quite a few hours on it. Last year I started noticing a lack of power. I have had it to my local repair guy and it still isn't quite right. Compression is good. The carb has been replaced this spring. The first time out after the carb replacement it seemed...

Hiring a Sawyer for Walnut Log - Novice Seeking Advice

I had nine logs milled by a portable sawmill and was very pleased with the results. I cut all my logs to 9' even though I could have had some 12' plus. It made it much simpler to stack and sticker. For my cabinet making projects I cannot foresee needing anything longer that 8'. That said...

    Skidding Winch on Subcompact Tractor

I did purchase the Farmi 290 for my Kubota BX24 and finally got a chance to put it to use. I had did a couple small pulls before the weather blocked the access to my woods. They went well and I was looking forward to putting it to use. There is a learning curve and I had to replace the cable...

    Skidding Winch on Subcompact Tractor

I appreciated the input from all. But I have come to the conclusion that this site is a bunch of enablers ;). No one really had a reason to not buy a winch, some cautions, but more "go ahead and do it". So in that vein I have ordered my winch and it should be on its way in a day or two...

    Skidding Winch on Subcompact Tractor

I am trying to decide whether I need one, hence this posting. In most cases I cannot get close to the logs because of other trees or the hilly terrain. I saw the Aframe type grabber, but in my case I don't think it would be as useful. I do appreciate the input. Doug in SW IA

    Skidding Winch on Subcompact Tractor

I have a 9 acre lot that is primarily forest. I have been heating with wood for over 20 years. I have a Kubota BX24 and I am thinking about getting a Farmi JL290 skidding winch. Up to now I have dropped the trees, cut them to firewood length in place and carried or rolled the pieces out to...

    stihl 019t

I had an 019T and did like it but maintenance is a real pain. Nothing is easy to get to on it. In talking with my dealer he said he dreaded working on them. I think I would hold out for a later model top handle saw. Doug in SW IA

new chainsaw owner looking for safety equipment advice

Based on input from this site I just started wearing chaps. I wasn't completely happy with them until I bought suspenders for them. It made the fit and feel much better. I always wear my safety glasses and earmuffs. I am working on getting into the habit of donning the chaps each and every...

what's the weirdest thing you have used a chainsaw for ....

Cutting rafters to remove a roof in one pieces. Used an ax to chop a line around the roof, (1x6's spaced for wood shingles.) Pried off the last two 1x6's. Cut two holes on each side. Hired a crane and hooked it up through the holes with 4x4's and chain. Lifted the roof off. Doug in SW IA

    Restoring a hardwood forest

I would contact the Oklahoma Forestry http://www.forestry.ok.gov/ and talk with your local forester. It couldn't hurt to have them on your side. I had my local forester come to my small forest (8 acres) and put together a plan for a healthy forest and there was no charge. They might be able...
