? isit only the foolish that heat with wood?

My house has ceiling heat and a wood stove. Ceiling heat sucks. In the 20+ years I’ve been burning wood I could have probably spent the money I used on fuel and saws to pay for a new heating system, BUT there were quite a few lean years where we didn’t have much money and cutting wood kept us...

    I bought wood today.

I guess where I live in Idaho is different from where the rest of you guys live. We don’t pack wood to go camping, and IF we stay in a designated campground, it’s never a pay place. Campfire wood is abundant and there’s plenty of spots along the cricks to pitch a tent or pull in a trailer. I’m...

    Partially Rotted Logs

I take it all home, the punk and rot and junk gets mixed into the load of wood I sell my ex wife’s boyfriend.

    Ordering firewood?.

Never hurts to have an extra cord or two if you can swing it. I was out of the area living in hotels most of last winter so I ended up with an extra 4 cord. This winter is starting out the same...

Injuries or chronic problems related to wood harvesting/splitting

Sounds like a pulled abdominal muscle. Rest is pretty much your best remedy for it.

See, you guys are jerks! Right off the bat you start talking about apples, then the next post mentions hickory smoked chicken! I wasn’t hungry until I read this and now I’m starving! Thanks a lot

Anybody ever cut up a fiberglass boat?

When I remodeled my bathroom I couldn’t get the old tub/shower combo out and the sawzall wasn’t doing the job, so I turned the fan on, fired up my old 55 and cut it into chunks. My daughters thought I was nuts, but it worked fine.

    455 or the 460?

I just bought a 460 2 weeks ago. It’s a step up from my 20 year old 55 rancher, but a major step down from my 2101. However, it pulls a 24” Bar through big fir trees easily enough. It’s A LOT lighter than my 2101, which is the reason I bought it. I like it well enough

    Hissing sound from a tree??

Out here the pretty people in Sun valley demanded that cell towers blend in with the landscape so they started making them “resemble” fir trees. Of course they’re all iron so I suppose you’d know real quick if you cut into one

Chainsaws and the delicate human frame.

Took a chainsaw to the face, cut the right half of my nose off, doc had to take skin from my cheek and rebuild the missing part of my nose. Shoulders and elbows are wore out from 12 years of football and 17 years of drilling and jackhammering rock. Knees are still ok sorta

    questions about you?

I’m a driller and blaster, I blow up stuff. I cut firewood to heat my house. Husqvarna 2101 and 2100 are my biggest saws. 2101 has a 32” bar and 2100 has a 36” for milling

    Do you work out?

I was in good shape when I was in college, now I’m 40 and I feel all those old football injuries. I lift a little, but the biggest thing that’s helps me is stretching. I try to stay somewhat flexible

splitting big rounds with a jack hammer??

This would be pretty slick if I had a mini

    Husky 55 Rancher

I have a 55 Rancher, and I have used it to mill smaller stuff, it isn’t near as fast as my husky 2101, but it’s near half the size. It is kinda fun to see what the little bugger will do though.

Do my neighbors hate my smoke? or are they just jealous?

Light up a nice big pile of wet leaves, then see what they say

Let me introduce you to "Sheldon" more specifially "The Sheldon Cord" !!

So far this post has taught me that there’s this Sheldon guy who likes librarians but drives a longbed truck, and hates non librarians who drive shortbed trucks, and a face cord is part of the metric system? You guys are making my brain hurt

    Splitter wings

I will give that a try

    Splitter wings

Unfortunately no.... because I wasn’t thinking when I welded them on. But now I know for the next one I build

    Splitter wings

I decided to weld some wings on my wedge to make it a 4-way, since 99% of the wood I have left needs split into quarters at least. I ran about 2 cords through it today and it seems to work fairly well, although I have noticed some friction/drag between the beam and underside of the wings.
