    Rate my saws

Thanks for all the responses fellas:bowdown:! These types of responses were exactly what I was hoping for because from reading through the forums and posts I realize there are stark differences between models. I hope to have the huskvarna and 291 on CL by days end. :dancing:

    Rate my saws

Hello All.... over the last few years I have accumulated a number of chainsaws and I am trying to decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell off. Here's what I've got: Huskvarna 455 Rancher 20"bar Stihl 026 18" bar Stihl MS291 20" bar Stihl MS361 20" bar Stihl 056 AV Super 24" bar Echo...

rugged made {rugged split } log splitters

My apologies for the delay in responding. I love the thing. Motor is still running great. Starts easy and no maintenance issues or headaches since I built it. I split about 7-9 cords last year and I'm about 3-4 deep so far this year. In short, I would buy it again without hesitation.

rugged made {rugged split } log splitters

In case it helps anyone else, I received the splitter referenced in my earlier posts. I've used it to split several cords and it is great. No complaints. This ting is powerful and a value for the price. I see it is now available with a Briggs & Stratton engine for you traditionalists out there.

30mph winds -7 degrees (hedge night) what you burning?

We're at a balmy 18° with winds gusting to 28 here in dirty Jerz. Winds chills forecast to drop to -15. Burning anything I got. Some oak, some trash. But wood identification is a skill I need to work on. I wonder if the county college has a course in that? Maybe I'll buy a book.

rugged made {rugged split } log splitters

Yeah Jakers, the type 1 as they call it does horizontal and vertical splitting. The type 2 was just more than I wanted to shell out right now. So the ability to leave large rounds right on the ground and split them in the vertical position has worked well for me in the past. Then once they are a...

rugged made {rugged split } log splitters

OK. That's it! The deed is done! After more deliberating, I ordered the Rugged Made 37-Ton Type 1 manual start splitter. This decision was precipitated by a call to a local authorized DR Power service shop. He was not a fan of their kinetic splitter. That on top of some fine print on DR's "24...

rugged made {rugged split } log splitters

Thanks for the info. I am close to pulling the trigger on a new splitter. I have really been wrestling with hydro vs. kinetic. I have looked at a bunch of brands on both sides of the fence. The Rugged Made 37-Ton with manual start is $1488 but after you add on all the extras, the price climbs...

Oldneess, what did you end up buying? I'm in the market for a new splitter and considered the Rugged Made.

    Vermont castings merrimack

Any update from your buddy, Angelo? I picked up a Merrimack insert in October and have been burning the daylights out of it. At this point I have the surround on it, but initially I did not, so I could see the liner where it connects to the insert. There was a little bit of heat...

    Stihl 026 running 20" bar?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. You all saved me from myself. LOL.

    Stihl 026 running 20" bar?

Understood. I'm curious about this because the 455 came set-up that way, so I am interested in your thoughts on what may serve as a better set-up. Any input you can offer is appreciated. Thx.

    Stihl 026 running 20" bar?

Hey all, I have a Husqvarna 455 Rancher running H80 chains (72 link, 3/8 pitch, .050 gauge). I recently picked up a Stihl 026 that has an 18" bar (74 link, .325 pitch, .063 gauge). I found that the saw will work with a 20" bar (Part# 3003-000-8921) to run the same size chains I have for the...
