    Someone want an awesome sawmill?

my dad was surfing the net, he found this swiss made band saw mill, in switzerland.. a heck of a unit, I think it's a 40' bed, not sure on max diameter.. you dismantle (there's the catch) If there are some europeans around here looking for a commercial unit and have some time...

    372 xt porting

I did a search for 372 XT porting, and didn't see a whole lot, one thread mentioned it hadn't been done successfully, but it was from 2011.. any insights? I have a saw with a couple minor scratches on the cylinder I could afford to take some risks with before I replace it... I've never fiddled...

    Too bad it's not Husky

I'll just leave this here... nothing short of a 2100 will work on me anyhow

    Echo cs4600 ignition parts interchange

Well, my friends Echo CS4600 gave up the ghost.. ignition died, and I'm not having any luck finding one on fleabay.. Apparently there were other similar saws.. did the 3900 have the same ignition? any other models I should look for? I think the secondary coil is OK, and I'd just need the...

    How did I do?

Had a big poplar tree to fell, it was a hazard to my irrigation pipe... Leaned the cat bucket against it, tied a cable on as high as I could get, and put a good bit of tension on it with a big tractor Did my cut I think it's the prettiest cut I've EVER managed I want it *HERE*.. on the...

    Sand in the vaseline?

We had a tree service come out and trim up our BIG willow, cut a branch out the overhung the house and take out the dead stuff. Guy was here with 2 workers and a bucket truck, it was done in 3 hours, no chipping or anything.. the two guys on the ground really had nothing to do except lower one...

I killed the only Stihl I ever liked

Killed my 064 today.. Was using it last week and it was just fine, today I pick it up, fire it up and it rattles and dies. Take it apart, the lower ring broke and got mashed into the top of the piston pretty good.. Top ring is stuck in the groove. There's no sign of the ring snagging on the...

Maybe some of you knew him

My friend and neighbor, and fellow chainsaw hoarder Neal Wright passed away on Monday morning.. He did have a username here, but I never knew it.. He was into lots of old stuff, old single cylinder engines and the likes. He was a wealth of information, always up for a cup of coffee and hours of...

Why'd it die? Lean vs Straight gassed vs Overheated

I've come across a few saws now that have been scored to death, and I'd like to know more about the symptoms of each root cause Anyone know a good way of figuring it out? Perhaps with some pictures of what each cause does and doesn't damage? I got a 394 for cheap (have the saw if you fix the...

    394 parts interchange?

Well.. I picked up a 394.. decent shape, low compression, so I took it apart.. turns out the rings were stuck, a piece of crap went up the transfer ports.. cylinder perfect, piston salvagable, rings good.. bad big end rod bearing... it does run but it's not happy and won't get any time on it...

    Interior BC GTG

Well, it wasn't much of one, but Revelstoked (Matt) and I did have a little fun at my buddy's place in falkland... Unfortunately (or fortunately perhaps) there were no videos or pictures taken... we had a late start and time change messed things up good, we fell a few danger trees (cottonwoods...

    A little suckage perhaps?

I picked up a few saws today... A Stihl somethingrather.. 038? 044? perhaps? , complete except for air filter cover, piston is MINT, air filter looks like it has never been run, a little faded on the outside since it didn't have a cover on it, backside looks new, has spark. A Stihl 064...

    Tillotson throttle plates?

I was wondering if there's a source for Tillotson throttle plates.. I have a few 2100's and the plates are totally worn out, carbs are fine otherwise so I would just need the plates.. The kits I've found are only the soft parts.

    so here's the video

Here's the Manhattan project husky 61... not much left that's stock... bored. .. stroked.... ported.. and piped.. 32" unmodified Stihl skip full chisel.. and a big darned fir I'd love to put a race chain on it and change the port timing to optimize the pipe, but I still want it to function...

    Pictures... a request from me

I love pictures, but I gotta ask you folks if you're uploading a big picture, to attach it to the post as a thumbnail.. not all of us have fast (or cheap) bandwidth... Attaching it as a thumbnail makes it so the people with fast internet can see the full size image, and those of us less...

    Piltzing it!

Well... I guess I'm going to see if Piltz deserves any credit... A HUGE fir tree came down across my irrgation line in a windstorm last week, and it's about 40" DBH.. unfortunately is terribly bent and twisted so it's not good for anything except firewood.. So my neighbor who's got the pile of...

    Been here a year

Well, been here a year.. and I've doubled my saw inventory already I think.. I had 2 running L65's, now I have 3, and another that just needs a fuel line to make 4... a husky 61 that needs a couple minor things, the Manhattan project '277', and the Ford O&R minisaw.. Oh, and a basketfull of...

Expansion chambers.. need to pick brains

I'm working on some expansion chamber design software (I'd rather spend 300 hours making it than paying $50) I would like to have some discussions with people with experience who've built them and can tell me if the numbers in "math land" work in real life.. My biggest problem is figuring...

    Your favourite tool brands

We all have the brands we like, and not all of the best brands are best for a specific tool. Small pliers I like Snap on, unfortunately I don't have any Screwdrivers - Vera.. really like them.. hardened tips that just don't wear out Allen keys - B0ndhus wrenches, sockets.. .I have all...
