    Oleomac/Efco Carb

My grandfather gave me his John Deere branded chainsaw. CS 46. I believe it is a rebranded Oleomac 947, which is identical to an efco 147. Is that correct? It has sat for at least a couple years without being ran. It starts easy enough and runs on high idle but won’t idle and usually won’t...

Why Do Stihl Saws Cost SO Much More?

Speaking of dealers, the one I use is husky. And they are friendly idiots. Recently had to replace a handle on a 372 and wanted to price regular vs wrap handles. They had no idea what a wrap handle was until I asked about it and they looked it up. Also had no clue what wedges are for and don’t...

    Help with burn pile

Burned 3 more piles about like the one in the picture today. All burned well and we had an inch of rain two days ago. Rarely ever do I get a permit to only burn piles. The piles are usually burned when the surrounding woods get burned which is usually every other year. What’s the most tough to...

    Help with burn pile

2:1. Diesel:gas. Soak some finer fuel up wind. Wait a few minutes. Soak it again and light it. That’s always worked for me if it was an iffy to burn pile. But like has been, said dirt won’t burn. This pile was at most 12’ tall and about 1/4 acre in size.

Most handy chainsaw accessory ... ?

Sharp file Wedges Vise Compressed air Not really an accessory but a built in scrench holder under the handle should be standard equipment on saws.

Anyone bought one of the new Poulan 5020

Interested to see what style muffler is on the new model. I have an “old” model 5020 and was pleased the muffler is really just an empty cube. It’s actually a pretty good firewood saw.

    What saws are these?

Local fellow getting rid of these three and not sure what they are other than 2 Craftsman and a Homelite. Think the middle is a Craftsman 2.0 which is Poulan 2000?? What y’all think? I’m not familiar with “older” saws but think the price is right and don’t mind tinkering with some.

One of my last good saws

A tool that slices. A chainsaw does not slice or cut. It removes wood. Most Stihl owners=. Blade- “the part of the chainsaw I cut with”:D

    I almost did it today.

I have been cutting since probably 11-12 years old. Past six years it’s been part of my job which involves land management but most trees I’ve fallen lately were snags on fire during a prescribed burn. I was confident and thought I was decent to pretty good. We took a class put on by an...

    My 23 Reasons...

I love cutting down an inferior tree. I'd like to teach my son to be at least somewhat self sufficient.

    Not much oil on chain

Ran it with the bar on with no cover. Oil is running around the back plate. Guessing it’s a cracked hose that works until it has some back pressure(tiny oil hole). Will take the clutch off and have a look see when the 3 year old is in bed.

    Not much oil on chain

Few weeks ago a coworker dropped a tree on my 346xp. Busted the case where av spring mounts with the chain catch. Thought it was junk, but today got it redneck fixed. Wouldn’t rely on it as a primary but it can be a backup saw. The clutch cover also has a crack and may be slightly bent but...

    Chain Sharpening issue...driving me nuts!

I have this happen occasionally. When my file “chatters” on a cutter it’s always on the first stroke. When it happens I try to put more pressure and run the file slower. One slow hard pass breaks through the hard layer. No big deal and never thought much about it. All I use is Oregon files. Now...

Buying my first chainsaw. Lowe's OK?

You don’t have to pay a months mortgage for a good firewood saw. I use pro grade huskys at work. Awesome saws. My one personal saw right now is a Poulan 5020. Hard to beat at $200 new. All it needed out of the box was the high side opened up about 1/2 turn. Cut one cord with it a week ago. But...
