alaskan mill for my woodshed lumber

I do mill my own lumber. But I'm into milling for years and 100km away from the first decent shop selling lumber at a reasonable cost.I CS mill it just because it allows me to do some selection work amongst my trees. Milling lumber is dumb, noisy, boring and really hard on your whole body. A...

    Pricing lumber

I charge a per cut price (based on width and lenght of each cut, hardness and rarity of the wood on a local basis...) instead of a bd ft one, and it seems to be fair (I'm usually 30% under the local market price that is around 20% under the French Depot équivalents.). That was a bit of work at...

ANY IDEAS HOW THIS SPLITTER WORKS??

Use the husky to make a slot, slip the big metallic splitting wedge in the slot, use the Stihl maul that's sitting on the ground!

    Lo power milling

I know not the best title to avoid making enemies around. But seeing that another one bursted his expensive neat and clean new high power saw makes me wonder. Why do people around here (and on most places around) advise people to buy expensive high power saws, while I (and probably some others...

Stainless dog cable imbedded, how bad can it be?

As I told in the other thread, OK for the marked cylinder and piston, but to damage rollers you had to make your saw damn hot. Hot enough to boil the gas in the tank (or stihl rollers are crap!) For the brake it seems fair you burnt it, most first timers to, next time you'll build one from...

Overheating chainbrake on ms880, burned up oiler, piston ect Anyone else?

Well I'm no stihl expert and hate their latest models, But IMHO to toast a roller that fast you'd at least made the gas boil several times. I mean I used to run pretty small saws for milling (jonsered 550 and partner 450) for both I made gas boiling, the partner's piston ring was something I...

Stainless dog cable imbedded, how bad can it be?

I did, and it's not as impressive as it looks. Chain lost alltension and got stuck in the guard , I didn't realised it was broken until I try to understand why my mill was stopping. I guess things could be a little more dangerous now that I have no chain guard on my heads...

    Rough sawing with a 372xp?

I'm more on the mig side, now that I'm only welding for myself a tig would be a poor choice, I weld 90% outdoors, I'm also thinking about a rail style csm, but am really worried about wobble and waves due to the lack of stiffness of the guide bar.

    Rough sawing with a 372xp?

Then it would be OK, well for a first mill small square tubing and a mig are more than one needs, I made the mistake of making my first in aluminium extrusion and it was a real mess, a chainsaw is a lot of vibrations and some profiles are just unable to handle them...

My Old Truck, and the New One

I'm always astonished by the kind of cars overseas people owns... Dodge and general motors are just absent around here, and Chevrolet doesn't sale any car that can't fit on the backseat of one of those. For rust: phosphoric acid and a good paint, and for hiddend parts once a year a good wash...

    Rough sawing with a 372xp?

Great! If it's just for a while why don't you build a simple mill (fixed cut depth) instead of buying one?

Stainless dog cable imbedded, how bad can it be?

I grab all neighbourhood old chains for those cases, when I know for sure there is any piece of metal (or glass or rock) I use one of those instead of my classic milling chains. On those old chains I keep pretty high rakers to prevent teeth breaking and use a motorised small crank and let the...

    Anyone know this brand ?

Well done, Seems to be a nice little beast!

    what chainsaw mill is this?

Jim is right, I've found on my first mill that a good cleanup could not be enough on some softwoods and pines, the dust of my cuts used to build waves under the rollers. At least for me rollers became a no-no, but for big trees or maybe fresher ones with an aux oiler or water cooler it can be a...

    what chainsaw mill is this?

Seems like the first models of "la gruminette" a French csm. I wouldn't trust those rollers to give me a flat surface...
