    Morbark or Bandit?

I know this has been done before but I'm any input will be appreciated. Im in the market for 15" drum chipper w/ a winch. I'm looking at some 1390s and some 1590s and a few morbark M15Rs. There are also some 2400xls (18" no dually) that are in the price range but I can't seem find any specs on...

    Pine Pickin'

Probably not, the only saw shop in town (I live in a small town) just sells husqvarnas and jonsereds, so I like to give him the business, plus I have heard rave reviews on the t540xp and thats enough for me not to jump ship. I do not own any stihls. I am sure some of them are just as good as...

    Pine Pickin'

Yup :) got it for a good deal 3 years ago (before our business started to grow) and I haven't been able to justify the purchase of a more aggressive climbing saw. Can't wait to add the T540xp to the stable, but it has been a good little saw, not a ton of power but it did survive a fall from...

Amateur taking too big of a top?

The whole operation was comprised of amateurs, from the climber (possibly the biggest amateur, clearly no chainsaw skills) to the rest of the "crew." I'm pretty sure they were using steel cable with a choker to rig that top (listen at 0:26 he says "gotta make sure the cable is not in my way")...

    Negative Blocking a White Pine

Yeah we had too many wraps obviously, we are still fine tuning our ability to judge number of wraps needed and my ground guy's ability to let it run. We just bought a portawrap a few months and haven't done much negative blocking yet, but this was great practice. The video cut out, but the next...

550xp aloft is where it's at

Just filed it and it was ripping through that soft pine. We didn't have to clean anything up either, every once in a while you get a dream job, and this was it. When I told my ground guy he looked like a kid on Christmas.

    Massive White Pine Takedown

I know it probably looks puny compared to the trees out west but up here in this part of Maine it definitely stands out as a massive tree. Everything up here gets logged so hard it's rare to see a tree over 4' in diameter. Plus its a catchy title ;)

What's the best walkie talkie for crane use?

I'm curious about the wireless communication preferences for you veteran crane removal guys out there. I'm sick of hollering down to my crane operator; it's exhausting and looks unprofessional. I need to invest in a wireless headset walkie talkie system, and I'm hoping to find some advice from...

    Best Rope for Pulling

Yes, that knot is correct. I would recommend using a clevis shackle to attach your block to the bowline, instead of just going around one loop. You can pick up a 3 ton shackle for around ten bucks and its well worth it.

    Best Rope for Pulling

Learn how to set up a 3:1 mechanical advantage system. All you need are 2 pulleys (with big enough sheaves to sustain whatever rope you are using; 5/8 is plenty rugged enough for what you are doing) and a clevis to attach one of the pulleys mid line. To do this I just take a long bight of rope...
