    jammed log splitter

No, I did not use loctite. The way I look at it, this was a manufacturing deficiency and that big lock washer precluded the need for loctite. Plus, I really leaned on that 24" long adjustable wrench.

Help! Cylinder on New Splitter Leaks Like Crazy!

I just thought I'd update this thread. I fixed the leaking ram today. The big nut was loose, there was a missing 2" o-ring and a damaged 1.5" o-ring. Started right up and no leaks after splitting several pieces.

    jammed log splitter

. A long time since the last post I know, but I just fixed my leaking HF 30 ton splitter. I only put about 7 cords through it, and it leaked fairly bad from where the ram went into the cylinder. Upon taking it apart, I found that the nut was only marginally hand tight, a 2" o-ring was missing...

    Harbor Freight Splitter

Geez. That could take your hand off. I have one too, and it's been leaking since new. What did you do to fix the nut backing off, if I might ask? Others are finding the problem too: http://www.**********/econtent/index.php/forums/viewthread/23743/P75/

    Synthetic in small engine

I have Mobil1 in all my little engines. I think the snowblower starts easier in cold weather. For automotive, it's probably best to follow the mfr's recommendation. For example, the newer VW diesels require a special oil because if not, the cam lobes that drive the unit injectors fail. On my...

    towing a log splitter

If I had to tow mine any distance, I would put it on a utility trailer.

    New splitter

I don't know why the hate for HF. I have the same model, the 91840. I've done about 6 cords or so with it. The cylinder had a pretty bad leak that pretty much went away. HF sent a new cylinder which I haven't installed yet. It took a long time to come, so that's why I continued to use it...

    New splitter

My neighbor had a pulsing lawn mower that was tres annoying. It turned out the air filter was clogged. At least I think it was the air filter, maybe the fuel filter, but I don't think they usually have them, do they?

    New wood splitter

The included hydraulic fluid is worth a surprising amount of money.

Plastic pallets to stack firewood on?

My farmer neighbor who sells firewood uses plastic pallets and they seem to work fine.

    Help Servicing Huskee log splitter

You could use a suction pump/can like this. I use one on my cars. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=45403

    Wood customers driving you crazy.

As a customer, I'd have to pipe in to say it's tough to find a good "wood guy". One time I thought I had one, then he went out of business the next year. I think the best chance of doing well is to steer clear of the amateurs-experience counts for a lot. Last year I got a tri-axle load of...

    Electric/gas 37 ton Northern

There was a guy on ********** who found some newspaper in the hydraulic tank of his new splitter.

Insert fan blowing soot & dirt

Don't know about the fan, but that's a sharp-looking setup you have there.

Which log splitter should I get?

Hey Fubar, I'll stick up for my Harbor Freight 30 ton unit! Yes, the cylinder did leak somewhat when I first got it but after I reported it to the company it slowed to a virtual stop. The company sent me a new cylinder which I didn't install yet. I think I was the only one that posted...

    Ouch.

Would soccer cleats do the trick? They'd be less cumbersome.

    Best Size Log Splitter

I think the automatic compression release really makes my 9 hp motor easy to start. It pulls very easily. I've never had an engine start so easy. I can't see the need for electric start except in the dead of winter maybe.

    Firewood tarps

I too use the black plastic with pieces of wood holding it down. I was thinking of putting rope between two pieces and letting them hang down so it would hold down the sides, which tend to blow up sometimes.
