    Wormdrive beam saw for ripping

Andy I have used a 9 1/2" Makita circular saw and fence to cut 2 inch thick slabs down to width, it's pretty quick and accurate so long as your fence is straight!

    My new alaskan mill setup

Thanks Chillipepper. It's just another way, like most I get my ideas from reading about other peoples mills, I have seen your adjuster and Bob's, and also a mob called Panther Mills in England that use a gear system. My way is just a cheap homemade version. I don't post much only what I think...

    My new alaskan mill setup

That's a good point, a quick release on the wrap handle would be the best place.

    My new alaskan mill setup

Yep, I found that I didn't adjust the height as much as I needed because it was slow and awkward!

    My new alaskan mill setup

Undo the wingnut and the rail rotates to lift/lower the mill evenly- makes adjusting the height super quick and toolless.

Filing Granberg Ripping Chain (Depth Gauges)

The scoring depth gauges should be lower than the clearing DG's so that they cut first

    how do I move on....

I thought I should add information on a problem I had with homemade 2skip. after using this for a while, I had a problem with the cut diving, and the usual things (sharpen chain, level bar rails, check mill alignment) did not help. It ended up being side wear in the bar groove, caused by my 2skip...

    how do I move on....

Tried full comp chain 3/8 regular 7.5° DG on 090 ( 'cause thats what I had), but it cut 110 seconds per metre? very smooth finish . must be something to do with chip clearance I guess? And now my test log is finished, so am I! Thanks for your input Kiwibro and Bob, looking forward to your...

    how do I move on....

090 on mill with 3/8 reg 2 skip, 8.5° DG The chain R&D department finish on cut with 8.5° DG, time 70 seconds per metre, but I could improve that with practice as it self fed so well it was more a matter of being smooth and careful not to allow it to stall the saw down, rather than push it...

    how do I move on....

That looks like a good toolbox quality model! I will probably get a more basic type to mount on the saw or mill frame I think...but thanks

    how do I move on....

DG is for depth gauge, or raker is more commonly used I guess, DG is easier to write :) I learned most of my chain names from your posts!
