Pacific Energy Summit - Any Recent Experience?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm planning to move forward with the purchase at this point. @esean - Understand on the blower, but I'll need one. Due to some code issues in the previous masonry chase install I will have to put my stove in a reduced clearance alcove instead of a full...

Pacific Energy Summit - Any Recent Experience?

Hi guys, Been a long time since I posted here... Was a long-time lurker, was pretty active for a while, and now just occasionally browse through. Believe it or not, I still remembered my password on the first try. I'm looking at replacing my Buck Model 81 (great stove, love it and will be...

    Stolen tractor

Pretty sure "god" was an autocorrect for "gps" based on how close together all of those letters are on the keyboard haha.

who are our oldest and youngest members?

After reading the first several replies I thought I was going to come in as the youngest at 26, but I finally found a 25 in there to make me runner-up so far. As far as actively producing wood goes... it was literally 0deg this morning so I'm just actively burning the stuff right now since it's...

    Firewood Dolly Recommendations

The ability to move rounds would be good for someone who needs it, but I already have that system worked out. I agree with you on the big wheels situation. I may end up going the homemade route because it doesn't look like I'm the only one who can't find what I'm looking for haha. I'm not...

    Firewood Dolly Recommendations

This looks pretty solid. I don't really need the additional functionality of moving rounds, so I'm wondering if the cost might go down some if I find one that is made more specifically for moving splits. If not, I may have to try and build something similar to this out of what I have on hand...

    Firewood Dolly Recommendations

I like the wheel system on that but I'm looking for something with rails so I can throw splits in it and bring them to the door for easy access at night. If I'm going to buy something new I'd rather go ahead and buy something purpose made.

    Firewood Dolly Recommendations

Looking for recommendations on a dolly to move splits across the driveway from barn to house, and then up 3 stairs to be stacked outside the front door for easy access. I’ve tried searching... too many options and not enough feedback. I’m looking for something to move 200-300 pounds at a time...

    Cherry

Bark could pass for black cherry but not sure about the wood. A split would remove all doubt. Edit: I have cut a couple black cherries in the 16-18" range.

    Not looking forward to this

If you prefer a passive approach, pile up some brush and dry wood around and inside the split trunk, maybe a bag or two of self-lighting charcoal. Round up a case of brews and a couple packs of weenies and watch it slowly become a not-hazard tree.

    Tree id... another one

Best I can tell, smaller/younger silver maple trees have pretty smooth bark. It starts to roughen up and flake a little bit when the tree matures. I could be wrong, but... just sayin.

I need a new sledge hammer

I've got an 8lb. harbor freight sledge, use it all the time. Never had any trouble out of it and gets the job done. Well worth the money.

    Show me your Woodshed designs

That's what I do. Everything is stacked outside in open air from whenever I split and stack until the very beginning of the season I plan to burn it. Then I move about a cord at a time into my barn, which keeps it out of the weather until it's time to load the stove. Works for me.

    Firewood "table" for storage?

I think the point of the vertical columns on the end of the rack is so that you can fully utilize the space provided. Stacking wood on a platform and criss-crossing the ends will work fine, but you leave a lot of empty space in the criss-cross pattern that could be filled with wood if you had...

    New guy with some ??

Wow I haven't been back on here in a while... Forgot I asked you this question. That makes sense; like I said, just curious and was pretty confident you had a reason.

    New guy with some ??

Casey - Just curious, hopefully don't start a derail here... Why not run anything longer than a 16" on a 362? Reason I ask is my only saw is a 261 and it gobbles up the mostly oak and hickory with an 18" bar no problem. Seems like a 362 ought to handle a 20"+ bar no problem. Based on the way...

    Hauling Rounds on ATV

I had the racks from the second link you posted on my old fourwheeler. They were nice for hauling fairly light stuff around; treestands, tools, etc. but they wouldn't handle anything with much weight to them. They attach to the racks with U-bolts (used to, anyway) and no matter how tight you...

    Hauling Rounds on ATV

Alright I have you a solution that will be easier than moving your house back there. Buy about a mile or so of triple wall pipe, and all the materials you need to build an OWB. Burn the oak on site and just pipe the heat home. Oh and you're gonna need a pretty strong blower, too. I prefer to...

    Hauling Rounds on ATV

I was going to recommend @GrizzlyAdams86 solution from above and offer up that I have done it that way a few times as well... Then I read this post about the terrain you are dealing with. Based on my several years worth of experience trying to carry/haul things I shouldn't be carrying/hauling...

    Hauling Rounds on ATV

I ran into the same issue you are having... I wish I could give you (and me) some sort of awesome solution but I ultimately decided to just leave it lay because it wasn't worth the work.
